Adrian Paul returns in new Highlander movie!

Recommended Posts

Good news, Highlander-heads! According to the Adrian Paul Newswire a new Highlander movie is coming to the Sci-Fi Channel in September. Named Highlander: The Source, it will feature the return of actor Adrian Paul as the immortal Duncan Macleod.

In this movie, the 5th since the original Highlander series ended in 1998, Duncan goes on a quest with a number of immortal and mortal friends to find the origin of the first immortal and The Source of immortality. It seems to be set in the future because, as the plot summary says, we find Macleod roaming a crumbling city as the world falls into chaos. Then again, he could be walking the streets of Camden, New Jersey for all we know.

Highlander: The Source will premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel on September 15th at 9 pm, and be re-broadcast on September 20th at the same time.

WOOHOO!

I have some serious reservations about this...

Don't get me wrong, I think Adrian Paul is a great guy (I met him a few years ago, just after he finished filming "The Breed") and he was really cool. However, he has a pretty poor history with films. "Higlander (4) Endgame" was not brilliant (but it was better than 2 & 3!). If you are a hardcore Adrian Paul fan who hasn't seen "The Breed" (a film about vampires, not Highlander related) then for the love of god, DO NOT WATCH IT!!! It is quite possibly the worst film ever made! Ever!

There's a couple of reasons why I don't hold out much hope for the new Highlander film:

1) This was originally supposed to be a cinema release, but now it's going to premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel - not a good sign...

2) I have seen an early version of it that was given to me by a friend a couple of months ago, and while it's not as bad as "The Breed", IMO it's not that great. It's not even as good as "Highlander Endgame"!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... And who knows, the version that gets released may be a totally different cut to the one I saw.

You saw the version I was given then I have read they have since changed it slightly but the story remains the same which isn't that good.

So they are just going to ignore Highlander 2? (Immortals from Space!)

All scores IMDB:

Highlander I got 7.1/10

Highlander II got 3.4/10

Highlander III got 3.7/10

Highlander 4 got 4.2/10

Yeah, I'd pretty much ignore Highlander 2 (and 3 and 4).

The series actually got the highest rating at 7.4/10

This movie (Highlander 5) gets 3.8/10

I personally don't really understand how the series got rated higher than the original movie. I did like the original movie. I watched the TV series because it was often the only SciFi program on at the time (desperation breeds compromise).

The series was actually rather good, but the only reason I can think of for it getting a higher rating than the original movie is even though the movie was excellent, but it has aged really badly. If someone who didn't know anything about it watched it now, they would wonder what all the fuss was about.

The music is still excellent though! :D

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
