Web Hosting

Question

We are currently with Ipowerweb.com (since about 2003) but there up time recently is a joke, it's been down for say 3 days in a row every few weeks now it's been down about a week! I can't even download a backup and there support has been terrible. We are going to block the direct debit which I think is in November so we are looking for a new web host.

I require PHP, MySQL (email is not necessary), and say around 40GB+ a month bandwidth and about 500+ MB of space (Ipowerweb is unlimited).

We do live in England but we buy hosting in America since for what we want hosting in the UK is a complete rip of. Is there anything in Europe that is reasonably priced with good support? I think we pay about ?54 a year or something..Or maybe it's cheap in the UK now? (one and one is to expensive, but all our domains are on that fortunatly).

Many thanks,

Sorry if in the wrong place (I hardly post here now).

Good luck with your new host, and if there's any problem (i doubt it, ASO makes a good competition) you can try you know who ;). I believe Ipowerweb manages their own datacenter, and from what I hear they are actually having problems in the data center itself. Like the power supply is not quite reliable, as a result the server goes down and such. By the way, you really shouldn't use direct debit or bank account information anywhere, stick to credit cards :).

So I guess Ipowerweb don't have Emergency power supply backups.

I'm really trying to find a good host in the UK or Europe.

edit, http://www.eukhost.com/ the gold plan looks quite good for my needs and it's in the UK. It's about what we are paying now a year. Anyone used them before?

Eukhost.com actually needs to order the transfer on their end first. And if Ipowerweb releases it, only then they will get it. However, I recommend keep domain names and hosting separate. This cross transferring will get really annoying in future if you need to switch hosts. Because some hosts doesn't approve transferring (I recommend godaddy for domain registration only).

By the way from what I see Eukhost.com and Ipowerweb.com doesn't shield your information. Take a look at this: http://whois.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?i...rk-buxton.co.uk. Displays your name, where you are hosted and much more.

If you get web hosting from Yea-Baby.com, you will get more features, more resources and recently launched the Privacy Protection Package.

Not trying to advertise, just helping you to make the best choice possible.

I use ASO and have since it first started up. I only had a few down times lasting a few hours over the last 4 years. I do wish they would add more space to the accounts though. They update cpanel but that is about it. Service is great.

I was thinking of going to Lunarpages but will stick with ASO until I hit the limit on space.

ya, the spae limit is the only downfall I have with ASO. Even then really, 400meg for 5 bucks a month is still pretty good. Given a few more months I'm going to boost mine up to the next package. I'm getting close to hitting the bandwidth limit occasionally and I want to make sure I don't.

I've contacted ASO support about 8 times since 2 years ago when I went with them. They have resolved my issues no problem at all within 15 minutes. I got my mom on her own account with them too and she's messaged them many more times and they always help her out very quickly. I like how they will even go into your files to fix an issue you're having if need be. They know their stuff.
