[Official] Doctor Who Thread

Recommended Posts

Hah, I knew the Daleks would play a big part in whatever story Rose was coming back for. Looks great also, yay! I hope she decks Donna and throws her in a closet somewhere and goes off with the Doctor alone (maybe with Martha heh) buahahah!

Why is it I see well editted clips like that and my spine tingles, yet on a weekly basis I get more and more bored?

Because, most episodes won't ever be that good, or even touch the multipart finales/arcs they do. That's why they are so good, not to mention they are almost always (in fact, I think they are always so far) written by Davies and not the other people involved with the show like most of this season so far. But needless to say, a story bringing back Rose, with the Daleks involved has to be epic, and has to be extremely memorable, don't ya think? :)

Anyone posted this yet?

Doctor Who guru Davies steps down

Russell T Davies is to step down as executive producer of Doctor Who, the BBC has announced.

Davies is credited with breathing new life into the show he brought back to television screens in 2005.

Bafta-winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Davies as lead writer and executive producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who.

Moffat, who was behind Coupling and Jekyll, said the whole of his career was "a secret plan to get this job".

BBC Fiction controller Jane Tranter said the past four series of Doctor Who had been "brilliantly helmed" by the "spectacularly talented" Davies.

"As lead writer and executive producer, he has overseen the creative direction and detail of the 21st century relaunch of Doctor Who and we are delighted to have his continued presence on the specials over the next 18 months," she added.

Davies will remain in charge of four specials to be shown in 2009.

The fifth series, with Moffat at the helm, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One in spring 2010.

Moffat has already written some of the most memorable Doctor Who episodes of recent times, including The Girl in the Fireplace and The Empty Child.

Earlier this month, he picked up the best writer Bafta for the Blink episode of series three, which featured terrifying weeping angels.

Moffat said: "I applied before but I got knocked back 'cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven.

"Anyway, I'm glad the BBC has finally seen the light and it's a huge honour to be following Russell into the best - and the toughest - job in television.

"I say toughest 'cos Russell's at my window right now, pointing and laughing."

Doctor Who's return after a 16-year break from the screen received praise from critics and fans alike.

Speaking after the first series of the revamped show in 2005 - which starred Christopher Eccleston as the Time Lord - Davies said Doctor Who had been in desperate need of regeneration.

Russell T Davies on the cult of Doctor Who

"I love Doctor Who and I love the old Doctor Who," he said.

"But, even with all that love, you have to admit that the name of the programme had become a joke and its reputation had become a cheap joke at that - you know, rubber monsters and shaky sets."

He added: "It's been everything we planned and more, and it's very rarely in life you get the chance to have that happen."

The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. In that time, the lead role was played by seven different actors including William Hartnell, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison.

Miss Sparrow definitely seems to be a fan favourite, you never know as the Moff' created her, she may return.

I suppose that a lot will be down to Carey Mulligan's availability - she has now finished filming "An Education" written by Nick Hornby.

I'm thinking that the Daughter might be involved in the finale. Her, Donna, Martha, and Rose! Great news! (Except Donna)

Dalek's will always be living on in Doctor Who however, even I would be sad to see them go. The writers want them to live on you can see that... Every single episode when the Doctor (and his sidekick) defeat them, the last one decides to teleport away to come back later, or some buried beneath rubble for thousands of years gets let out.

Decent ep. Anyone else think that woman is his wife or something :s. Also, does anyone know where I can find the music in the background of the vid rappy posted. :D

edit: seems like some people think the woman is his daughter (Jenny)

I bet BeLGaRaTh was jumping round the room at the end when Donna looked in trouble and her "dead" face was on the robot :p

Funny you should mention that, just finished watching it on Sky+ or whatever the HD version is. However realised she is still in it till the end of the current season :(

    • It is remarkable how hearing Japanese can inherently elevate the perceived quality of any experience or product.
    • Your other comment in another article says otherwise, namely "Microsoft veteran wants to replace every single line of C/C++ code with Rust and AI".
    • Sued and... exonerated. Oh, they learned a lesson alright. They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
