The teaser trailer for the Christmas 2009 finale elicited whoops and cheers, the loudest for Donna (Catherine Tate) and the return of The Master (John Simm). Oh, and the good doctor gets all action-hero-y as he grimly walks away from a flaming explosion behind him.

Although the panelists were supposedly there to hype up Sunday's "Planet of the Dead," the session really just devolved into shouts of "We love you!" and "Why are you leaving?" and debunking various rumors.

Cannot confirm:

- Garder disillusioned the fans that there was going to be an announcement about a Doctor Who movie, although she added: "It made us think that it might be good to do at some point. Is this something that you want?" Uh, the ringing in your ears after the deafening cheers sounds like a "yes."

- Although Tennant admits to being a fan of "Firefly" and "Serenity," he says his wearing a long brown coat is not an homage to the Joss Whedon space series. When he got hired on, he reportedly asked the producers, "Can I wear a really long coat?"

- Film projects Tennant discussed that he's NOT in: "I don't think I'm in Harry Potter"; "I think James Bond's taken"; "Apparently I'm in 'The Hobbit.'"(Okay, as denials go, that last one is pretty vague since he's referencing the reports only.)

- On whether Tennant will return as The Doctor for any special appearances, charity benefits, etc.: "Who knows. The dust has to settle. I don't know, it's the 50th anniversary in 2013, isn't it? I dunno. That's not making an announcement. There's no plan. Don't Twitter that! That's not a thing! Yet!"

- Stealing something from the "Doctor Who" set: "One of the jackets is missing ... a sequence in the finale one of the jackets gets slightly compromised. So eBay is being scoured, but it wasn't me."

Can confirm:

- Tennant as the 10th Doctor will be in an upcoming "Sarah Jane Adventures" episode titled "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith."

- He'll also appear as the villainous woman-hating Lord Pomfrey in the upcoming UK-release film "St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold."

- The panel's Comic-Con appearance will be documented in an upcoming "Doctor Who Confidential."

Except for those little tidbits, the remainder of the panel was just a lovefest for the longevity of "Doctor Who" (including a presentation of a Guinness World Records award for it being the most successful science fiction show on TV), the show's integrity ("It's the same show and the story continues I'm playing the same man that William Hartnell was playing. I just have a slightly different wig.") and The Doctor's ubiquity in the UK ("You go to the supermarket and your face is on a cake and a t-shirt and children's pants.").

As for the as-yet untested 11th doctor, Matt Smith, Tennant reassured fans, "I've chatted him out a couple times. .. he's clearly going to brilliant, which is annoying. He's bright and normal and down to earth. He doesn't need any help from me. You'll cry along with us, then a few weeks later you'll think Matt Smith is the greatest thing that's ever been. I'm proud to be handing it over in good health."

A few minutes of "Water of Mars," which will be the next special to air after "Planet of the Dead," were shown at the end of the panel in order to let the panelists make a getaway unnoticed. The footage looks to be one of the more creepy installments of The Doctors' adventures.

"Planet of the Dead," co-starring Michelle Ryan as the adventuresome Lady Christina, airs Sunday, July 26 at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America.

I just watched the first episode (Rose) of the first season of this show and I just don't know what to think. :(

Seems to whacky for me but I'm gonna keep watching the rest of the season (since I bought it).

Rose was okay, like kev64 says it does get much better. Best episodes of S1 are "Empty Child" and "Bad Wolf" imo.

I dont think you can really compare S1 with the subsequent seasons. Its not that Chris E. was a "bad" Doctor; he was completely different to what David T. took to the show - and the storylines get much richer and darker.

Definately watch S1 though as alot of what happens in the following seasons refer to things that are either setup or mentioned or happen in that first season.

Actually, I think i'll grab the dvds of all the seasons and re-watch them...

Because it's by 2 Entertain Video which is owned by the BBC. Its the commerical arm of the BBC.

However, it looks like the Scifi channel are handling the US dvd releases (as amazon.com states the studio is the scifi channel)

$60 works out at about ?36, its not bad. I think the amazon uk sells it for ?13! You could try and import the dvds.

Russell T. Davies says "Waters Of Mars" is "one of those claustrophobic submarine-type dramas, all trapped in an enclosed space with sort of increasing darkness and intensity. It all takes place in a very small location in Doctor Who terms." And he says the Doctor likes being the Tenth Doctor and will fight against giving that up as hard as he can ? even though the writing is on the wall with all that "knock four times" stuff.

Also, David Tennant's final two-parter, airing later this year, is "a personal epic. That final story, it becomes, yes, epic. Almost like a fairytale. But in that there's, like, a seven-minute scene of David and Bernard Cribbins having a conversation together in a cafe, it's really intimate at the same time." (If it was anybody else having a seven-minute conversation with the Doctor, I'd be dubious. But Bernard Cribbins? Cannot wait.) [Premium Hollywood]

    • I sort of agree with you on that. I had a telescope - a real hefty thing, although only around 500CHF - that got me so fascinated about the stars and planets. I would stare for hours, amazed that I could see the craters of the moon or the rings of Saturn in "realtime" (quotations because, y'know, speed of light and whatnot). A friend of mine has a telescope like the one mentioned in the review, and the pictures are amazing to look at. But there is something missing for me. I may as well just go to NASA's website and look through their gallery.
    • As opposed to catching bad press because it's the engine's fault? You didn't really think this through did you? lol
    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.
    • I misread the title and thought Teams itself would be redesigned. Imagine having this one as a native WinUI app.
    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
