[Official] Doctor Who Thread

"Doctor Who may not be quite the force it was when it returned with Christopher Eccleston and in its David Tennant heyday in the UK, but has a growing audience in the US on cable channel BBC America.

"It will not return next year until the autumn, giving it plenty of time to recharge batteries. And what better way to do that than with a new Doctor?"

That's ridiculous

I really like Matt Smith better when he has some hair.

He shaved if off for a movie role, they will give him a wig.

Also damnit I was hoping Dr Who would return early next year.

The first episode of the new series has him checking his face out in the mirror when he visits rose's apartment, as if he'd just regenerated. We'd always assumed it was from the 8th Doctor but it was never directly stated (or shown) so :p

Qscreenshot.17.jpg

Remember this face-  - 2cnd  "offered up for this regeneration  as a possibility"  To which he said was too thin.

The question is -- What if the time war happened before the first regeneration???  You know where the Doctor escaped to run from the War?

I doubt the Time War happened before the first regeneration as he was visited Gallifrey a few times in the original series and a Time War was never mentioned back then.

The point of the whole time war stuff was to enable them to freely dump as much of the classic show canon as they wanted, and reinvent to their heart's content.

Case in point, the Cybermen.

Therefore it clearly happened either during the time of the eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), or early in the ninth Doctor's regeneration.  Personally, I feel the ninth Doctor came about as a result of, or during, the time war.

Or it was John Hurts doctor who was fighting in the time war. Why else would they bring him in as The Doctor.

Almost certainly unrelated.  The time war stuff was all RTD's doing.. Moffatt doesn't generally mention it a whole lot.

Also, we've seen in "in-between" regeneration before (the whole idea of that is silly).  In the classic series, the sixth Doctor story Trial of a Time Lord, the prosecutor, The Valeyard, turned to be the Doctor's darker side from all his earlier regeneration's amalgamated into a form between his 12th and 13th incarnations.

I thought the quote between was "between his 12th and Final incarnations" and I honestly believe they are not going to limit Dr Who to 13 regeneration's so we could honestly see the Valeyard one he hits his 450th or whatever incarnation because we don't know when his final one is. Plus we don't even know if Time Lords where given New Regeneration cycles during the time war so yeah. Oh and River could of also given The Doctor her Regeneration when she revived him in Lets Kill Hitler.

I think it's more a case of trying to fit new canon in with classic canon.  It doesn't really work to well, hence the time war to retcon stuff out.  You can pretty much guarantee that none of the current stories has anything at all to do with anything in the classic show.

True I suppose, but I think it is good that when it was revived they didn't start with the "First Doctor" again and have included some of the old stuff.

Almost word for word what i was thinking. (Y)

And that just annoys me no end. It's like they just tried to dump the classic show and forget about it.

Now that's a good photoshop  (Y)

Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison and John Barrowman were spotted outside the closed down BBC Television Centre building this morning filming with writer/producer/actor Rhys Thomas. As you can see they had placards with them with slogans like 'No Classics? No 50th!!' on them. Is this for a sketch show of some kind, Doctor Who sanctioned material for the anniversary, or maybe even the documentary Davison hinted he would film by himself a few months back?

In a quick press release detailing the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Schedule, the BBC have revealed that the title of the special (which will air in 3D as well as in cinemas) will be called "Day Of The Doctor". It will be 75 minutes long and the now-leaving Matt Smith commented, saying "Hope you all enjoy. There's lots more coming your way.".

All the Doctors need to be in the 50th anniversary show. If they are not it is a grave injustice to Doctor Who fans everywhere.

Disagree.  The 50th show should be a story that stands out and has references to the past but shoe-horning them all in is exactly that - writing a story around a premise that we need them all.  I argue that it could come across rather awkward to do so at the cost of a good story.

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Resident Evil, Mafia, Like a Dragon, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic concluded its mystery giveaways this week with another double freebie promotion. As a part of this, you can now grab Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest to keep. Songs of Conquest is a turn-based 4X strategy game where you'll be managing a kingdom, making tough decisions, and taking down enemy forces in tactical combat. Meanwhile, Rogue Waters is a roguelike where, as a pirate captain, you command a ship and crew through procedurally generated encounters. The double giveaway is coming to an end on June 11. On the same day, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks will join in as the next freebie. Another Humble Choice offer was revealed earlier this week, bringing a refreshed eight-game selection to jump into. The June selection is Octopath Traveler 2, The Riftbreaker, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, INDIKA, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, Construction Simulator, Hell Clock, and Overlooting to keep as Steam keys. The $15 bundle gives you all eight games from this month's Choice selection. The month-long promotion will come to an end on July 6, giving you ample time to decide on whether you want the titles. The Humble Store also brought in standard gaming collections this week. The IGN Live Bundle kicked things off with games like Control, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, Blair Witch, Rollerdrome, and The Last Campfire for $10. At the same time, the We Will Always be Here bundle carried in titles like Bad End Theater, Thirsty Suitors, Vampire Therapist, and Tavern Talk for $12. Next, the 2K Sports Champions Bundle comes touting games like NBA 2K26, PGA TOUR 2K25, OlliOlli World Rad Edition, and TopSpin 2K25 with a hefty $25 price tag.
