@ Ayepecks, lets just hope you have the same reviewing morals when it comes to Porject Origins ;) Wouldn't want to see you being biased or anything like that :p

Dear goodness, why is it that people who are obsessed with Halo think I'm going to hate on a good game because I didn't like the previous installments, or love a crappy game because I loved previous installments? I hated the original Half-Life, but I absolutely love Half-Life 2. I'm not going to be swayed because of a previous installment.

Extraction Point, the F.E.A.R. expansion, was only decent. Project Origin may very well be bad. I don't know.

Please stop trying to insinuate things that you don't know about. I've already stated numerous times on here that I'm looking forward to Halo 3 and always have been, despite not liking the first two games. Just because I don't blindly accept every single thing about a game doesn't mean I will hate a good game just for the sake of it. So please stop implying that I'm hating a game just because it's the 'cool' thing to do, or just because I didn't like previous installments.

Halo 3: 1.5 million US pre-orders

Mark Androvich 17:42 (BST) 24/09/2007

Fastest pre-selling game in history

With less than 24 hours to go before the game's launch, Microsoft has reported that it has already sold more than 1.5 million copies of Halo 3 in the US.

"The excitement and demand for Halo 3 has transcended a typical video game release and we?re preparing dedicated registers for its midnight release in our 24-hour stores," said Darin Dickson, video game merchandise buyer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "It?s clear that this is one of the most anticipated games of the year and that 12:01 am Sept. 25 will be a memorable moment for thousands of gamers."

As previously reported, approximately 10,000 US retailers will be open at midnight, with special events taking place in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Miami.

"Our customers have been waiting for Halo 3 since the day after Halo 2 launched in 2004," said Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy. "Halo 3 is going to bring the experience to new levels, and we are excited to help our customers get the best possible game playing experience."

Halo 3 is the fasting pre-selling game in history, surpassing the previous record-setting pre-sales of Halo 2. The game will be released in 37 countries in 17 different languages.

The game will be available in three versions: the standard edition, a limited edition, and a Legendary edition. The Legendary edition has already sold out in the UK, with all copies being accounted for by pre-orders.

Early retailer reports indicate that the disks in the limited edition have a tendency to come loose in the tin, making them susceptible to scratching. The full extent of the potential problem will not be known until the game is made available to the publicSource: Gamesindustry.biz

Halo 3 may generate $170 million Q1 revenue

Mark Androvich 19:45 (BST) 24/09/2007

First profitable quarter for gaming division?

According to Goldman Sachs analysts, Halo 3 may generate USD 170 million in revenue during Microsoft's first quarter which ends five days after the game's launch.

A Bloomberg article notes that Microsoft's stock rose the most in the five months since analysts recommended purchasing shares of Apple, Microsoft, and EMC. The Microsoft recommendation was based upon expectations that Halo 3 would boost revenue.

Microsoft climbed 95 cents, or 3.3 per cent, to USD 29.60 today for the top gain in the Dow average.

If Halo 3 does generate USD 170 million for Microsoft, it will mark the first profitable quarter for the company's gaming segment, which has been in the red since the launch of the original Xbox.

Goldman Sachs analysts Sarah Friar and Frederick Grieb predict that Microsoft will have shipped a total of 4.2 million copies into the retail channel by the end of September.

While these numbers are slightly behind those for Halo 2, which shipped approximately 7.5 million copies by the end of 2004, the Xbox had an installed user base of almost 20 million when Halo 2 was released.

In contrast, the Xbox 360 has a worldwide installed user base of just over 11.6 million.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
