Miss Teen USA answers a question

"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Believe it or not, they don't teach anything in school these days. My little brother comes homes from school and I ask what the teacher is teaching and he always says nothing. They don't even have homework anymore and everybody uses calculators instead of their brain.

She had another chance to answer the question, lol. She said she "completely misunderstood" and apparently scored 3.5 GPA when she graduated, which is about a B+ grade according to Wikipedia... I find that incredibly hard to believe, or the US are too "easy" with their exams/grading system.

Don't know much about ... geography?

Lauren Caitlin Upton, Miss South Carolina Teen USA, whose mangled response to a pageant question has become an Internet sensation, will have a second chance to answer it on Tuesday morning's Today show.

"I didn't do anything wrong," she told South Carolina's The State newspaper. "I wasn't expecting [the question]. I lost my train of thought."

She added she "completely misunderstood" the question, which she'll get a second stab at on Today.

The beauty contestant's video on YouTube has received more than 2 million hits thanks to her amazingly off-the-mark answer at Friday night's pageant, when she was queried about why Americans are so bad at geography.

Specifically, she was asked why one-fifth of Americans can't find the United States on a map.

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps," she ventured.

During her meandering response, she also tossed in out-of-the-blue references to "the Iraq" and "Asian countries" and their need for the support of the American educational system in identifying the United States on the map.

Upton is described as a varsity athlete and student leader at Lexington High School, where she graduated in June with a 3.5 GPA.

Despite the on-camera gaffe, Upton finished as third runner-up.

Third Runner up?!

This is hilarious! I came across this link to the final question of Miss Teen USA 2007.

The first girl from South Carolina is possibly the dumbest girl alive. What on earth was she talking about? I cringed when I heard her response. What was she thinking?!

I liked that second video, it showed all of their responses which is cool. All were pretty bad apart from the last girl.. she was quick and gave a real response.

Also, what kind of risk is snowboarding, lol? At least north carolina was a bit better than south carolina. :p

Hm, and how would you answer this question? :)

Because the only type of people who would be asked to locate America on a map are likely to be imbeciles and someone with a degree of intelligence is trying to ridicule them. This charming young lady may well be an example of such an imbecile, she's not even that hot.

I'd still hit it, mainly because I wouldn't feel so inferior to her.

Miss South Carolina

Looks: 9 (She's about as retarded as they come, but lets face it, she's pretty hot.)

Personality: 2 (If I had to guess, this is what it would be. I'm probably being generous here.)

Intelligence: 1 (I only say 1 because there is nothing lower in a 1-10 scale.)

Mr. Yorak

Looks: 6 (I'm really a 10 but people don't know that yet.)

Personality: 8 (I think I'm pretty cool, and since it is MY rating for myself, I can dream the dream.)

Intelligence: 7 (I know a little about many things, but I only know specifics of some.)

So the totals:

Miss South Carolina = 12

Mr. Yorak = 24

This proves I'm superior to her. With these known statistics, I could easily approach her and ask her out without worrying what she thinks of me. I really have no idea what I'm talking about because I just took a Vicodin for my headache, and it makes me go on and on about senseless crap. I apologize Neowin.

    • Very fitting name since AI users have air where there brains should be.
    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
    • Didn’t Dbrand once complain that Casetify was ripping off their designs a well? seems pretty bad of them to try and get around Valve’s copyright this way with that in mind.
    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
