The gmail add on allows users to add Gmail - Google Mail - to the start menu.

Right click on the start bar -> Properties -> Start Menu -> Customize -> select "Google Mail" in the email link box.

so by clicking on this icon it just loads up say firefox and signs you into gmail?

Yeah it loads up your default browser and opens gmail.com. If you've already signed in it will take you straight to your inbox

Yeah it's basically just intended to be a shortcut for getting to gmail, especially for those using IE with no Gmail extensions etc.

I love the icon. Thanks for this, there are plenty of times I don't feel like typing "gmail.com" or "gmail" (since I use OpenDNS). This is the perfect lazyman's shortcut.

Didnt Gmail has it own apps that adds an icon to the system tray and tells when you get a new message along with working in any browser?

The reason I'm not using that any more is security: if I'm not at my computer anyone can get into my inbox by using that app. If you're the sole user though that application is very handy.

Another update:

Another update to the Gmail Add on: it now supports users who use googles "Google Apps".

Either at the end of install or after, the user can specify what domain they would like to use, i.e. when someone clicks on the Google Mail icon on the start menu, which url it takes them too.

Simply go: Start -> All Programs -> Gmail Add on -> Domain Name Changer

then enter your chosen domain in the box and click "Change"

When you close your browser it should log you out so when you shut your computer down you'll be logged out for sure.

ya i can LOG OUT from gmail account ...but i m not sure about the gmail notifier that i was logged out when i close MY PC or not ....

that's why i stop using it but it is very good application

I've improved the file open dialog - invisible changes but it now works better and is less buggy.
