Vista Media Center XBOX360

Recommended Posts

I dont know if any of you know that you can change the b/g on your vista media center on your 360? I liked the style they have but there had to be something new. So I went online and figured out a way to change it here is what I got so far....

NOTE: In order to do this you need to take control of ehres.dll here is how you do it....

1. Click the Start button.

2. Click All Programs.

3. Go into Accessories.

4. Right-click on Command Prompt

5. Select Run as administrator.

6. When the UAC Prompt appears, click Continue.

Once you have your elevated command prompt, follow these steps:

For our example, we are going to use the Bubbles screensaver file (Bubbles.scr)

1. At the command prompt, input takeown /f filepath (takeown /f c:\windows\system32\Bubbles.scr).

2. Press Enter on the keyboard.

3. A message will be displayed that this completed successfully.

4. Now input icacls filepath /grant yourusername:f (icacls c:\windows\system32\Bubbles.scr /grant shamanstears:f).

5. A message will be displayed that this completed successfully.

That looks pretty damn good. I think it looks better with that black background than the blue one. I'm not really quite sure how you set the background for media center though since you used a Bubbles screensaver file in the example.

It works with Transcode 360.

Via my movies you have two play options, Watch the movie or stream. Selecting stream will make Transcode 360 transcode and stream an unsupported format to the 360.

It just removes the need to go into the more menu and select transcode.

My Movies is an awesom plug-in. Version 3 will be built with Vista in mind, so there will be nice transitions and it will work faster when the library is large.

I was using this setup for a while, but now have a dedicated HTPC, so formats are not an issue and I can rip my dvd's directly to the drive without having to convert them to MPEG, which is a pain for foreign language films. I didn't realize you can change the background i'll have to give this a go

Ah, I didn't realize that that's how it worked. Thanks for the explanation.

Hmm, it looks like their website is dead for now :(

You can just get the installation file from Download.com. That's where their website points you to, anyway.

site is back up! Ok well i got home after work yesterday and figure out a way to change the background to fit your media center theme! Go to the root directory of the installment and go in the vista folder now the there is 2 background images. Get the background image you want and make sure is a .png and replace with new ones and your done! Easy isn't it?

Yeah and now that the site is back up I see they don't support Vista x64 so no go for me at this time :(

    • never mind the video had a couple swear words... gosh it was funny!
    • It's expensive, but I bet it will still sell out just like the Steam Deck and the Steam Controller
    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
