Actually, they're afraid of copyright infringments in terms of trademark of the logo/name etc because Chinese authorities actually enforces that. That is why the knockoff companies resort to naming things like Nike -> Nkie, Addidas -> Adidas etc and then the police won't touch them.

these things cost about $2 in other countries as well. i actually picked one up. The one i got was a knock of N64. it was basically an atari with some sort of flash memory that stored 64 games built in. pretty cool for $2
