How's the Asus Maximus Formula for you? My HTPC just died, and I am replacing my mobo/RAM/CPU/graphics. I have several pairs of DDR2 RAM laying around, so that's not a problem, and I am getting a 8800GT so I am slapping my current 8800GTS in (Nothing wrong with a bit of overkill :p ). I am going to get a cheap Pentium Dual Core for overclocking, so what do you think of the Maximus Formula CbaZ10? :) (Nothing wrong with even more overkilling haha. I just like it this way.)

I got it when it was still brand new and it was quite buggy, trouble with RAM. couldn't leave anything on "auto" cause it would set the wrong values and that. But after a few bios updates (version 0701 at the moment) everything is working superb for me. [edit] There are some bugs left but nothing shocking on unworkable with, just small things like the little "LCD poster" that comes with the mobo can display Time or "User string" when you select the user string, you can't enter a string anywhere :p

Love the ton of options in the bios to overclock etc. but if you're not into that you can just leave it all and still have a super fast mobo. The "onboard" PciE soundcard is way better then usual onboard cards but can't compare it to a good Creative audigy or so.

There are "special editions" wich have watercooling option or normal editions without. they're the same except that the normal has a bigger heatsink.

Don't think it matters THAT much really.

Haha the onboard sound isn't a big concern to me, I have an Asus Xonar D2 anyway. :) I was just wondering how overclocking works for you; I have a P5E3-Deluxe/WiFi-AP on my main comp which my particular unit performs less than what I expect. :p

Thanks by the way :)

Don't you think an HTPC would be better off with a quieter card that include hardware accelerated video decoding? (Unless your HTPC is also your gaming PC) Just some friendly advice

Samsung 226BW 22" widescreen monitor (yes it's 22" the big tower just makes it look small :p)

Is your monitor mounted to the wall or is that some sort of custom stand (if so, where did you get it)? I love my 226BW but dislike the fact that you can't adjust the stand in any way.

It's mounted to the wall so it can tilt and swivel in each direction. I really disliked the original stand of the 226BW too because of the lack of swivel etc.

It's a Vogels brand mount (dutch brand) Site to wallmount

saves a lot of desk space too :)

The back of the 226BW supports like every standard sized LCD/plasma tc mount. can get them from anywhere really that sells tv's

fyi .. it's called the FDMI .. flat display mounting interface .. or VESA mounting

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Display_Mounting_Interface

monitors usually support VESA75 or VESA100

according to the samsung website, the 226BW has an VESA100 mounting... get a mounting for that size and you will be good to go. Vogels is a good brand

http://www.samsung.com/nl/products/monitor...creen/226bw.asp

please note the mount on itself can cost you 75 bucks .. easily. do NOT buy a cheap wallmount (I think you know why)

Sorry for the multiple posts. Neowin is not showing me the edit button :s ...

It has onboard gigabit, wouldn't be much use having a 2TB array with no network connection :p

Why do you keep posting the same pics?

Where do you get that screen saver?

ya, thats a box of halloween candy.. hehe its really cheap once the 31st passes. :)

One of the core libraries (cURL) has been updated to address vulnerabilities and a nasty linker error that was causing the need for a dedicated patch which could now be eliminated.
