Haha, nice setup. But surely you don't have a use for all of it? I mean fair enough Samsung TV for TV/PS3/Xbox360. And I'd understand having the 3007WFP + 2005WFP but having a third monitor (allbeit a 2407WFP!) and then 3 laptops?

Thermaltake DuOrb undervolted (For the silence :D ) on Asus 8800GTS. Also, new fan on my Scythe Infinity heatsink -- didn't like the stock 120mm fan, so I got a Noctua NF-P12 high pressure fan designed for heatsinks. Back is a Noctua NF-S12-1200 mobo controlled @ 900rpm, front fan (not shown) is a Noctua NF-S12-800. All for the silence (Y)

What kind of temps on your CPU? I think that is the heatsink I may end up with soon.

41*c idle (Core) 1.3750V, E6600 @ 3.44. Load 59*c (Core). Surface is around 10*c lower.

I've set the fan on silent mode (As all the fans in my computer that's controlled by the motherboard), and my airflow sucks in my case due to slow case fans so you will see high temperatures. All fans besides the CPU operates at 800-900rpm besides the CPU fan at 1000rpm (The NF-P12). The 8800GTS with low rpm fans on the DuOrb is not any help either :p You should get something in the low 30s for core for a similar config if you have fans that draws for air or runs faster (Y) (I do a lot to make my computer quiet lol)

Thats one clean machine, cables and wires all tucked neatly away. Love It.

Yea right now mine is at ~45C with the stock heatsink/fan and folding@home on 24/7 (overclocked a little bit). I have pretty good airflow in my case but I am looking to lower my temps a little more (yea I could set my cpu back down to stock but what fun is that). I've seen quite a few people with the scythe.

If you really want silence then you should ditch the Thermaltake stuff. Also I'm guessing the hard drive is now the loudest part of your system, so you might want to use some sort of vibration reducing mount for it (ex. SilenX Luxurae HDSS).

I have one hard drive, because more hard drives = more noise :p I have a NAS in my basement, connected centrally via my central home network (Gigabit) so I am not too worried about that.

Not necessarily. The hard drive is the loudest part of the system, but personally I find vibration reducing mounts almost useless. Enclosures are what I find more useful.

I have an Antec P182 with my other comp, passively cooled graphics, undervolted Asus Silent Knight II, and although the case does make a difference in sound isolation, I'd still keep my case window with my Thermaltake Aguila. The system is not loud enough to justify for that, and if I am going to change, I am going to look at Lian Li with the same set of case fans.

I know how to silence my computer. :p

Anyways, here's a pic of my other computer:

That's the system I built with a few extra parts I have laying around, besides the CPU which I purchased for the completion of this computer.

Based off the Antec P182. Sorry for the bad photo quality, it's late at night haha.

Anyways, the changes I made since last upgrade was the Tagan ITZ 700W to PC Power & Cooling 610W Silencer. The Tagan was too loud for my likings, and much to my surprise after giving the PCP&C I got yesterday it's actually very quiet (Almost as good as Seasonic PSUs) so I popped it in and rewired the system.

The heatsink's also changed to Asus Silent Knight II, motherboard controlled (PWM), which is also very quiet. The loudest thing in this system now is the stock Antec case fans, and the hard drive.

Rest of the specs:

- Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 (Allendale) @ 3.08GHz

----- Asus Silent Knight II, Arctic Cooling MX-2 paste

- Asus P5K3-Deluxe/WiFi-AP

- OCZ Platinum PC3-12800 Enhanced Bandwidth 2x1GB

- Asus Radeon X1950 Pro, modded: Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 [Passive]

- Asus Xonar D2 Sound Card

      Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/

      One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.

      I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
