I finished watching this a few days ago. Epic series. I can't believe I ignored it all those years.

Starbuck looks a lot like Beka from Andromeda. I thought it was her at first until I found out she got the role for Starbuck at 21 or something.

Same deal with Baltar. He looks exactly like Bashir from DS9.

I'm sure this has all been discussed already. :p

Battlestar Galactica may have ended a few months ago, but the BSG Universe according to Ronald D. Moore is far from gone. Only two weeks after the series finale, Syfy released the pilot for Caprica on DVD, the new prequel series that starts next year on the channel, and the two-hour tele-movie, The Plan, has now been given a DVD release date. Syfy has still not released the network broadcast date, but if you can't wait to see it on Syfy, you can pre-order your DVD today on Amazon.com, or pick it up in your local DVD store on October 27, 2009.

The Plan is unique in the fact that it will show us, for the first time, the events in the series from the point of view of the Cylons. To be specific, we'll see the Cylon plan to destroy the race that enslaved them from the eyes of two powerful Cylon leaders, working separately, to destroy the final remnants of the human race.

The Plan will bring back much of the award winning cast including Edward James Olmos, Dean Stockwell, Tricia Hefler, Grace Park and Callum Keith Rennie. Battlestar Galactica: The Plan was written by Jane Espensen and directed by Edward James Olmos. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick Executive Produced.

The DVD will include additional footage and extras that won't be seen when The Plan finally airs on Syfy channel.

"Edward James Olmos was our director on the movie and he did an amazing job. He also shot some great footage that we are not able to show on TV, so I'm thrilled that viewers can experience it uncut as our director envisioned it," said writer and executive producer Jane Espenson.

The DVD will include the 90-minute, uncensored tele-movie with extras that will take viewers to the set of the most unexpected twist ever in the Battlestar Galactica Universe. Other interactive features exclusive to the Blu-ray Hi-Def version includes a new Battlestar Galactica trivia game, a My Scenes feature, where you can bookmark your favorite scenes from the movie, and a BD-Live feature that gives access to the internet-connected player to download more exclusive content, the latest trailers and more.

Other features on the Blu-Ray and the standard definition DVD are deleted scenes; interviews wit hthe Cylons from The Plan; Cylon Attack, a featurette that takes viewers behind the scenes of one of the tele-movies biggest action scenes; a filmmaker commentary and several other behind the scenes featurettes.

Former "Battlestar Galactica" showrunner Ronald D. Moore had a message he wanted to deliver to those responsible for nominating actors in key categories: Shame on you.

Moore blasted the Emmys during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con about "Battlestar Galactica: The Plan" and the upcoming Syfy series "Caprica" Friday, describing the fact that key actors like stars Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, along with a host of supporting players were completely overlooked once again.

"It's a frakkin' crime that in the entire run, the cast was never recognized for an Emmy," Moore said. "It is criminal. We wouldn't be talking about 'Caprica' if it was not for the ensemble of actors we put together on 'Battlestar Galactica.'"

This past awards season was the final one the series would be eligible for, outside of its upcoming telemovie "The Plan." Although there was some hope from critics that "Battlestar" would get some of the recognition that it was looking for, it didn't get more than a handful of technical nominations as well as a directing nomination for Michael Rymer for his work on the series finale. "Battlestar" has received some mainstream nominations in the past, including a writing nod for Moore himself in 2007.

However, "Battlestar" has only ever won technical awards, two outstanding visual effects awards for Gary Hutzel and his team. While these are strong awards, many still believe that "Battlestar" should've received far more recognition above its groundbreaking special effects, which is a category typically won by genre shows.

Moore most recently has been busy with "The Plan," which was written by Jane Espenson and directed by Edward James Olmos. The telemovie will dive into more of the series backstory, similar to what "Razor" did last year.

While some have speculated that this will be the end of the line for the "Battlestar" telemovies, Olmos said not to count out future projects just yet.

"Because of you, and all of you in here [the panel room at Comic-Con], because of the incredible love of what was created by Ron and by SciFi and Universal, and everybody that was doing this," Olmos said. "I guarantee you, this will not be the last movie for 'Battlestar Galactica.'"

"Caprica" premieres Jan. 22 on Syfy. "The Plan" will be available on DVD and Blu-ray Oct. 27.

This morning Battlestar Galactica producers David Eick and Ronald D. Moore gathered with several cast members and writer Jane Espenson to discuss the upcoming BSG film, The Plan, and the new TV series Caprica. Edward James Olmos, who directed The Plan, was on hand, and he was also joined by Esai Morales and Grace Park.

Unfortunately, we didn?t see much new footage (aside from a short teaser for The Plan). Still, it was nice to see just how much everyone involved continued to love working in the BSG universe. Since the Q&A was fairly disjointed, I?m just going to run down some of the juicier news bits:

-Ronald D. Moore stressed that the relationship between Caprica and Battlestar will be fairly tangential. While Caprica will certainly refer to things introduced in BSG, they?re aiming to give the show room to create its own world as well.

-Esai Morales hadn?t watched BSG before he got the role (and apparently he?s still working through it), but he?s well aware of the dynasty he?s getting himself into. ?It?s a religion? he said.

-Moore refers to the setting of Caprica as ?Rome before the fall.?

-Olmos made a very interesting connection to his character Gaff from Blade Runner. He said that if you start watch Blade Runner directly after the final episode of BSG, you?ll see just how easily Gaff fits into the Adama clan. After all, he was a cop hell-bent on taking out skin jobs.

-Olmos says The Plan is like The Bible for BSG. It will breathe new life into the series, and will make you want to rewatch the whole thing.

-When asked how tough it was to direct The Plan while maintaining 5 years of continuity, Olmos replied: ?It felt like I was allowed to experience something most artists don?t have an opportunity to do, to have an entire 5 years of human emotion put on film that I can use to tell this story.?

-On how the Emmy?s snubbed the BSG cast, more had this to say: ?Its a frakking crime that the cast was never recognized for the performances they did week in week out. It?s criminal!?

-Espenson mentioned that she brought a lot of dark humor to The Plan, and confirmed we?ll be seeing more of it in Caprica. She loves the way it can make things even more chilling. She?s particularly proud of Cavil?s ?Let?s get this genocide started!?

-Morales mentioned that we still have a long way to go in minority representation in the entertainment industry, but he?s grateful to follow in the footsteps of Olmos.

-In his closing remarks, Olmos proved how commited he was to the franchise: ?I?m in this for the rest of my life?.

-BSG: The Plan is all cylony and directed by Edward James Olmos and written by Jane Espenson. It took EJO 7 months to edit it.

-Ronald D. Moore gave an impassioned speech about how "it is a frakking crime" that the cast of BSG was never nominated

-EJO joked that he wrote a script that takes place after the series finale featuring Tigh knocking on his cabin door in the middle of no where saying "we have a problem"

I love that last one, would of been epic!

The Blu-ray Boxset is out in America now! Annoyingly tho, it's not out over here in the UK until late September :s It's been confirmed as region free tho so we can import it, but I think I prefer the way our boxset looks over the massive case the American release has.

I have a huge buy list for BSG. I am getting the Blu-ray Collection of course, but I for sure want all those action figures and toys. Can't wait for the release of all that.

Plus The Plan isn't what I thought it was going to be, but looks fracking amazing and I want to see it NOW!

And I love how Tigh is wearing a Mass Effect shirt.

    • Apple Watch Series 11 GPS just crashed to 30% off in this fast-moving Prime Day deal by Karthik Mudaliar The Apple Watch Series 11 is available for $279, down from its $399 list price, saving buyers $120, or 30%. Amazon labels the offer as selling fast, so the current price may not remain available for long. This GPS model features a 42mm aluminum case, an Always-On Retina LTPO3 OLED display capable of reaching up to 2,000 nits, and an Ion-X glass surface with improved scratch resistance. Apple rates Series 11 for up to 24 hours of normal use or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode, with fast charging providing up to eight hours of use from a 15-minute charge. Health and fitness tools include sleep scoring, temperature sensing, ECG support, heart-rate alerts, workout tracking, sleep apnea notifications, and hypertension notifications, where available. The watch also carries IP6X dust resistance and 50-meter water resistance. This configuration is best suited to iPhone owners who want comprehensive health tracking, notifications, contactless payments, and workout data without stepping up to a larger or cellular-equipped model. The smaller case should also appeal to buyers who prefer a lighter watch, while the S/M band fits wrists measuring 130mm to 180mm. With the current generation now significantly below its usual retail price, this is a strong time to replace an aging Apple Watch or buy a first model without compromising on Apple’s newest health and display features. • GitHub removes manual model selection from Copilot free and student plans by Karthik Mudaliar GitHub is removing the ability to manually select an AI model from its Copilot Free and Student plans, making its automatic routing system the default and only way to choose a model. This means users on these tiers will no longer be able to deliberately select a particular OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Microsoft model for a task. In its announcement, GitHub said Copilot Auto will dynamically choose what it considers the best model for each request. Free and Student accounts will retain access to models from multiple families, although the available selection will continue to depend on the restrictions attached to each plan. GitHub did not identify a fixed pool of models that Auto will always use, and its documentation warns that model availability can change over time. GitHub describes Auto as more than a random fallback system. On supported surfaces, its task-optimization technology evaluates the complexity of a request alongside real-time information about model health and availability. Straightforward prompts can be routed to faster and less expensive models, while more demanding coding tasks may be sent to higher-cost reasoning models. The company says this approach should reduce rate limiting, latency, and failed requests. Auto generally selects one model along natural prompt-caching boundaries rather than repeatedly switching models during a session, as GitHub found that mid-session changes increased costs without producing sufficient improvements in output quality. Users can still check which model generated a response. In Copilot Chat, the information appears when hovering over an answer, while Copilot CLI and the Copilot cloud agent display the selected model alongside their output. Auto is available in Copilot Chat, Copilot CLI, and the cloud agent, with the exact implementation and release status varying between supported development environments. The latest restriction follows several months of adjustments to Copilot’s individual plans. GitHub temporarily halted new Pro, Pro+, and Student subscriptions in April as it sought to manage demand and service reliability. It later introduced token-based billing and began gradually reopening individual-plan registrations on June 17. Alongside the picker change, GitHub is retiring the “Preview” label from Microsoft-developed models. It argues that the label is no longer necessary because Auto handles model routing and models are continuously updated behind the scenes.
