Leaked Screens IPTV and Fall Update?

Recommended Posts

Update: We just learned that Aaron just got his 360 back from Microsoft repair this week. We also know that his dash version isn't any different than the one that is already out (2.0.5787.0) leading us to believe that his 360 doesn't have the Fall update. But the new options are definitely related to the IPTV service as more options were discovered in his 360's settings. Need proof? Check out the two new screenshots we just added.

If the sweet, juicy, rumor friendly screenshots that we just received via our tipster inbox hold any water, then everyone can look forward to IPTV being part of the Fall update. Though, remember kids, this is all filed under the "rumor" tag ...

The two screenshots you see in the gallery below were sent to us by tipster Aaron, who says that he turned on his Xbox 360 today and noticed a new TV icon with four text squares in his media blade and was wondering if we knew what it was all about. We investigated and noticed that this new TV icon option wasn't normal and replaced the "Video Marketplace" option that we see on our dash. The second thing we noticed was that, when hovered over, the description for the mysterious TV icon option reads:

* Use television services. Live & recorded TV

* On-demand movies

* Chat while watching TV

Sounds like IPTV options to us. Once clicked, an error message pops up stating that it was "unable to start" and to contact support at www.microsoft.com/tv. That URL will take you to Microsoft's Mediaroom website ... also interesting. So, if everything is legit in these pictures and Aaron doesn't end up being a Photoshop God, we're going speculate that this random occurrence is related somehow to the Fall update. The square text boxes, error message and overall un-ready status of the dashboard option all smell of a Fall update that isn't yet ready for the masses. Maybe Aaron was online at the right moment when an Xbox Live engineer tripped over a cord sending Fall update goodness to his 360. Who knows. We'll try to get more information about this odd occurrence and ultimately find out if these screens are real and relate to IPTV or the Fall update. Until then, file everything into the rumor section of your brain and give the screenshots a look over.

Well, not necessarily via the ISP. It looks like it will be using Microsoft TV, so it looks like you will need a provider that can run Microsoft's IPTV service. So yea, I doubt it'll be free.

We'll have to wait and see if this rumor is true and what the pricing scheme will look like.

I think it's pretty hilarious that it was leaked this way, though, don't you? :rofl:

EDIT: Oh wow, after reading through that Microsoft TV site, it looks like this is pretty much confirmed. See OP for details!

Sounds interesting, another feature for the 360 I won't get to use :p (the last one was the Video Marketplace...which to this day has basically nothing in it :( ) Still, seems like it will chew through your HDD pretty quick, I'd say you'd want to have the 120Gb HDD to use it at it's fullest. It's great MS are releasing these cool features, but there is a whole world beyond America that they might want to explore ;)

thats good for you, now go talk to the media companies who own the rights to the content and all the people in your country who deal with the copyrights.

They'd better have more than just IPTV in the update. I don't care about IPTV to be honest.

indeed. I could care less about it. They need to add bigger things like 16:10 support and Divx codec

While I'm happy this is coming, I'd be very dismayed to see that Microsoft isn't listening to what its consumers want if they don't support 16:10. Look over at the official forums and see how many topics there are, and how long those topics are.

Still, IPTV's a great feature... sounds like it'll be coming; makes sense, too, since this was the timeframe it was expected in.

Considering how it says "On-demand movies," I highly doubt this will be free.

Well notice that it took place of the old Video Marketplace Button.... so perhaps that just brings you to a new menu, from which you can choose to go to the XBLVM, and that's what they mean by "on demand movies" ? Dunno, just putting it out there...

I just want the menu to be more flexible. It takes forever to invite a friend or play a specific song. Make it as fast as PS3/PSP's XMB menu and I'll be happy. :)

Yea, I'll agree to that, I wish it was faster. But, hey, as long as the game I'm playing doesn't suffer any framerate issues because of the Guide, I'm happy. ;)

    • Zen Browser 1.21.4b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about.
