This is what I sent:

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to convey my absolute disgust with the way I was spoken to in one of your stores recently.

I have been a console owner back since the days of the original Sega Master System, and purchase a lot of games for my consoles. For a long time I had avoided the Game store, as I had been under the impression they were not competitively priced. However, this feeling was turned on its head last year when I was searching for a Nintendo Wii. Your store located within the Shires (now Haymarket) shopping centre in Leicester not only helped me make an informed choice as to the bundle, but were the cheapest I could find. Obviously there were stock issues back then with this console, but your staff were more than helpful and I honestly felt that they went the ?extra mile? to help me out.

I then also bought an Xbox360, which was found to have an issue. The fact they just swapped it out without testing or querying really impressed me.

Since then, I have returned to this store a number of times purchasing other consoles, games, accessories and so on. I have found the staff to be some of the best customer-facing sales I have encountered, with a genuine passion for gaming. I also have found that the prices are in-line with what I would now consider competitive. I would single out this store as being one of the best high-street experiences I have had in recent years, and would like to pass on my thanks to the team there.

However?

This weekend I was in-store looking to purchase ?Guitar Hero: World Tour ? Complete Band Edition? for the Xbox360. There was a large stack of boxes with one on display ? but no price. I looked around for staff, and understandably at this time of the year, it was busy. And so I queued.

Upon reaching the counter, I was served by someone new there ? I assume a new manger as the man was older than the other sales staff, not similarly dressed and moreover ? just had a managerial air ? which is often helpful to identify a source of authority. I asked the price, and was told that it was selling at ?179 (ish). I had shopped around, and seen that it was cheaper in HMV by about ?30.

Game is a store that I feel quite loyal to, not only because of pricing, but I agree with spending my money in stores that earn it, deserve it and show good customer care. So rather than just leaving it and buying from HMV ? I asked if your store offered a price matching service. I was bluntly told ?No? ? and he then proceeded to usher me away. I questioned why Game is about 20% more expensive, and was simply told ?Look, if it?s cheaper at HMV, Bugger off to HMV then? ? his exact words. He then rolled his eyes and started to serve someone else.

I am sorry, but this is NOT how to sell. In the current financial climate people are less keen to part with money for trivial items such as games, but I was in store to buy the Guitar Hero bundle, a few games for myself, as well as a number of games for family presents. I would have been spending well over ?350 ? more than the cost of an average console, and yet was treated like a pest or a pain. At the end of the day I spent ?380 in HMV (with a little music also), a major portion of which I was prepared to spend in Game. I went in with the intention of buying the items, and if it was a little more, then I would question it, but ultimately pay it ? but not after being treated as such.

My feeling towards your store is severely tarnished, which to me represents quite a shame. I do not know the details of your staffing policies ? but the attitude I associate with that particular store is nowhere near as good as the one I previously had; all due to the attitude of one individual working there.

As I stated above, I work hard to enjoy my disposable income, and choose to spend it with companies that I feel deserve it, and make it worth my while. One way for consumers to show dissatisfaction is with their feet and wallets ? and simply not use stores that treat customers with such disdain.

I would appreciate a reply to this letter, if nothing else to acknowledge that there is an issue, and to allay my concerns with this store that I once actually enjoyed shopping in.

Can anyone suggest the cheapest place to pick up an Xbox 360 HD DVD drive? I'm planning on picking up a big TV soon and a Blu Ray player but there are some titles that came out on HD DVD that I'd love to own (like Lost in Translation) that aren't available on BD yet.. and given that the HD DVD is now defunct and cheap, there's no harm in picking that up as well!

Amazon reseller has it for ?29.99 which seems pretty good...
