DrunknMunky Veteran Posted November 9, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 9, 2007 Friday 9-Nov-2007 10:50 AM Planet of the Apes actor to grimace on the silver screenFormer rapper turned actor Mark Wahlberg is to play Max Payne on the silver screen. Reported on Variety, the move adaptation of the gritty bullet-dodging action series will begin shooting next year, and will be directed by John Moore, whose directing credits include Behind Enemy Lines. "It's the worst news I've heard in my life", PC Zone's Will Porter declared when we shouted across the office that Wahlberg is to play the man with nothing to lose. Question is, will he carry the permanent expression of needing a really good ****? We're also wondering whether this means a third Max Payne game is on the offing. It's been some time, after all, since The Fall of Max Payne released. Rappy Veteran Posted November 9, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 9, 2007 Twentieth Century Fox has Mark Wahlberg in the crosshairs for "Max Payne," a live-action adaptation of the bestselling Rockstar videogame that will begin early next year. John Moore will direct.Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects. The script was written by Beau Thorne. Julie Yorn is producing through Firm Films, along with Scott Faye. Wahlberg will make the film after he completes "The Lovely Bones" for director Peter Jackson and DreamWorks. He recently starred for the studio in the M. Night Shyamalan-directed "The Happening," which will be released next summer. Moore has directed "Behind Enemy Lines," "Flight of the Phoenix" and "The Omen" for Fox. He also is developing a live-action adaptation of the Virgin Comics title "Virulents" for Fox and New Regency [Source] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/599828-mark-wahlberg-lands-max-payne-movie-role/#findComment-588981850 Share on other sites
WebOrbiter
Worst choice ever. Max Payne was one of the best games I've ever played and I can't believe they would do something like that. Anyways I think the best choice would be Dean Winters, the guy from Rescue Me and Oz. I don't understand what Hollywood's new fear is in hiring new faces for lead roles. Shoehorning just any big-name actor into a role like that will destroy the original feel of the game, which doomed the sequel Max Payne 2. Come on Hollywood, wake up! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/599828-mark-wahlberg-lands-max-payne-movie-role/#findComment-588981923 Share on other sites

Excellent choice, my other choices would have either been Tom Sizemore, back when he was in somewhat shape and not a crackhead, or probably actually Michael Madsen (Mr Blonde) would work even better. I actually do not mind Marky Mark as an actor either, but this is just a HORRIBLE call. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted November 9, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted November 9, 2007 Yeah but movies is a media news and not game news ;) And games are not forms of Media now eh ? :p Anyways I see no problem having it in both sections, I'm sure a Mod will deal with it if they spot it. Razorwing
it's just a role. I doubt it'd be the lead role. Besides, Wahlberg was in The Departed, and it was pretty decent. Come on Hollywood, wake up! Kind of like Vince Vaughn and that whole group of untalented actors qho make all those idiotic remakes and "Legend"movies. Here's a new one: "The Ballad of the Legend of the Actors who can't Act." Oh, and Fox! How wonderful! We all know all of the masterpieces that come from Fox! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/599828-mark-wahlberg-lands-max-payne-movie-role/#findComment-588982494 Share on other sites

Kev1n
Max Payne as a game was great, but as far as film standards go its pretty much Been There Done That. And wahlberg is horrible. magik
I LOVED Max Payne! Really, I think it was one of the best FPS, very innovative and great story. MP2 wasn't as good, but still very enjoyable. I'm a fan of marky mark, so this sounds pretty appealing to me. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/599828-mark-wahlberg-lands-max-payne-movie-role/#findComment-588983156 Share on other sites

Ayepecks
Should be interesting. I know a lot of people don't think he fits, but I think he can transform himself into the role.
