Mark Wahlberg Lands Max Payne Movie Role

Recommended Posts

Mark Wahberg, Mila Kunis, Ludacris, and Director John Moore (The Omen, Behind Enemy Lines) were in attendance to premiere Max Payne footage at the Fox panel at Comic Con.

During the Panel, John Moore kept repeating how important it was for him to stay as subjective to Max Payne?s character as possible. He believed once you take away the controller from the player, you better make it as personal to the audience as you can. Moore?s reasoning is that when you play the game the whole reason to play it is to feel like you?re a part of the story.

If you?re a fan of the game, you would be excited of what we had the privilege to witness. For instance, one scene involved Max Payne following some ?junkies? into a subway system. As he passed them, they were sitting on a bench, he took a right into the bathroom. The next thing we saw was Payne looking into the mirror, he noticed the reflection behind him were the junkies. A shootout soon took place inside the bathroom, if anyone has played just the beginning of the game, the set were this taking place will seem very familiar.

Some other perks from the game, has Max Pax Payne narrating how he feels, using very dark metaphorical dialogue, but making it as simple sounding as it can, giving the feeling like you?re listing to someone read a comic book.

Max Payne, a video game adaptation from 20th Century Fox due later this year, will have elements of both the original game and its sequel, according to director John Moore. Moore told the press at Comic-Con on Thursday that essential elements to the story were taken from the "Max Payne" sequel, but the intent was never to take both games and mash them into one movie.

"Max can't rest until he finds the third killer (of his wife and child)," said Moore. "I believe he does want to find him and then rest. You get the sense throughout the film that once Max gets this third guy, he's done. But just at the end of the film he realizes that he wouldn't be doing his wife and child, so he wants to live on."

Max Payne stars Mark Wahlberg as Max, Mila Kundis as Mona Sax and Ludicris as Jim Bravura.

Wahlberg was hesitant to do the film after he learned it was based on a video game, but after reading the script and coming off of The Happening and The Lovely Bones, he said he was ready to crack some skulls.

"I love playing this character, especially after playing a science teacher and playing an accountant," said Wahlberg. "It's a nice change of pace."

Moore said that one of his main goals with Mark and Max Payne was to build a character that people would reference, citing early Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood's Harry Callahan. Moore also said he drew inspiration from Lee Marvin's character in Point Blank and purposefully impersonated his swagger in at least one scene in the film.

Wahlberg confessed he did not do many of the stunts in the film, laughingly referring to the 'three guys that look just like him' eager to get in there.

This was Mila Kundis' first turn in an action film and she said she was excited to learn how to use the guns and batons her character employed.

"It was awesome," said Kundis. "I've never done anything with action. I can barely walk without tripping. I never shot a gun, but now I can take one apart and put it together."

Max Payne is due in theaters on October 17.

just change the hair style and make it a tad comic-ish and you got a perfect payne poster

I realised that as well :p .

Scirwode

We'll have to see this October 17th. This better be good.

@local Torontonians: in that first poster, isn't that highway overpass in the background the Gardiner?

Do you feel it? Yeah I feel it to.

I'm getting some good vibrations!

I watched Sin City and turned it off in 5 minutes. If this is the same style not watching it. The voice acting for Vinnie Gognitti, Vlad and Mona made the game for me. Story was ok.

I actually have reinstalled Max Payne (on my iMac of all things is OS 9 is what I owned the original game for), and I have to say, for being 6 years old, at 1900 x 1200, it kind of still looks okay considering things.

But it is really refreshing my mind to the story, etc., and I plan on playing here and there until I beat it. Then on to the Fall Of Max Payne if possible.

I pretty much have to see this movie even if I feel I am not going to like it, just to big of a fan.

This is interesting. (BTW, Neowin's swear filter filters out "male rooster." :p)

Max Payne Film Director Complains of Rating Woes, Accuses MPAA of Sucking ****

by Blake Ellison Sep 05, 2008 6:15pm CST tags: Max Payne, MPAA

John Moore, director of the upcoming Max Payne film adaptation starring Mark Wahlberg, has a few words to say about the Motion Picture Association of America--the United States' ratings group for films--and most of those words are profane.

"The Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros.' ****," Moore said to DasGamer, referring to the blockbuster film sometimes thought too dark for the PG-13 rating.

Moore's outburst stems from attempts to secure a PG-13 rating for Max Payne, which would theoretically allow for some mature content while avoiding the age restrictions and reduced revenues of an R rating.

"I have a serious amount of issues with the MPAA," he continued. "The MPAA changes their rules willy-nilly and it depends on who's seeing your actual movie at the time. It's very difficult to get a hold on what's acceptable."

Moore feels that not only has the MPAA treated him unfairly, but that they also acted subjectively in preliminarily assigning an R rating to his film: "They said to me, the movie feels R. And I said, 'What the **** is that, a group therapy session?' You can't do that. They're meant to judge content, not intent."

The Max Payne game series, developed for PC by Remedy, was rated Mature by the ESRB. Much like an R rating, Mature indicates that it is suitable for players above 17.

Meanwhile, the movie, trailer here has not yet received its final rating, but will appear in theaters on October 17.

In that case, we can hope they didn't nerf down the plot. :)

Looking good if you ask me! However, I have said it before and I will say it again, where the hell is the damn brilliant OST! It better be there! :p

I'm with you on that one. I don't care if they remix it, I better hear C-Eflat-F-G-C-G-Bflat-G-Eflat-B :D

Why oh why must they keep trying to milk everything!

Max Payne was a good game, and it should stay a game. It had a decent story - nothing groundbreaking. The thing that made it a good game was the bullet time. If it had to rely on its story alone, it would be just another run of the mill game.

So I dont see why they need to turn this into a movie. They should have a made a Max Payne 3 instead.

I just seen the movie trailer. It looked really good, and I was actually excited to see the trailer on tv, and all hyped up to go see it, until the end of the commercial.

"Rated PG13".... you mean, Rated B, for Boring.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
