The Return of SNES Controllers

Get the familiar feel on the GameCube's Game Boy Player with Hori's upcoming controller.

January 14, 2003 - Hori's getting the jump on the Game Boy Player's release this March -- the company has just revealed its brand new "Digital Controller" for the GameCube, a scaled-back controller for the console that reproduces the original Super NES' control pad feel for gamers who want more retro control over their Game Boy games when played on a GameCube Game Boy Player.

The controller removes the two analog sticks entirely, but features all the action buttons of a GameCube controller, including the Z trigger as a face button. The analog L and R buttons of the original GameCube controller have been turned digital for Hori's controller. It's obvious that Hori looked at the Super NES controller for its design.

The controller is essentially created for more comfortable play with the GameCube Game Boy Player, but it can also be very useful for fighting games such as Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance where digital control is essential.

Hori's Digital Controller will be released in Japan on February 21st for a relatively low 1500 yen pricetag (about $13 USD). It will be available in two colors, blue and black. No word on a US release, but importers take note: the Japanese version will work on US systems.

i havent used third party controllers for awhile but i feel they usually arent as good while its a cool concept id have to try it before id buy it. that be cool to use if they ever make snes games as extras or like pack a bunch together for the cube.

If you would have read the FULL article, you would have seen that it is mainly meant for playing GBA games on Gamecube with the Game Boy adapter.

me either...

I'm hoping that Nintendo will come out with their own version of this pad.

I mean you never know, I thought I heard rumors of a new WaveBird sometime soon so why not add a SNES pad to the 'to do list'...

;)

Mortal Kombat Advance is supposed to be the worst game ever made for the GBA...

I actually liked the game, after you get over the controls (you can't do sf-style moves, you have to press down-then-up).

The game reminded me of MK3 on Genesis/SNES
