Pioneer PDP-5071HD Resolution Question

Recommended Posts

hi, i purchased this tv in may. i love it! best tv i have ever bought. played hours of 360 on it with no issues and watch hours of dtv hdtv. for christmas my wife bought me the Onkyo HT-SR800 7.1 Channel Home Theater System Model #: ONK HTSR800

i will be setting this up with my 360 and dtv running through this as well. when i run the speaker wire for this should i use 14 guage wire for this system? i have read that, that is the way to go. any feed back would be nice, also question about whether this tv supports anything higher then 720p. when i bought this i remember reading the manual and see that it only does 720p, bought now i thought i read something about people getting 1080p on this tv with a firmware upgrade? please help. when i put my hd dtv receiver on 1080 it shows up in the corner of my tv 1080, shows the switch from 720 to 1080.... is this true i can get that resolution?

thanks

You can't get 1080p through a software update, it's impossible. When it shows 1080i on the screen, it means the incoming signal is 1080i before being converted to the set's native 720p resolution.

As for the home theater speaker system, 16 gauge wire would be more than suitable.

Either way, it's a beautiful set. I was stunned when I first saw it.

The number in the corner of the screen is the original resolution of the feed. All televisions have a native resolution to which they take all incoming signals and scale them to. In this case, your TV is taking in a 1080i signal because the channel you are watching is broadcasting at that resolution. From there, you TV uses it's scaler to scale the image to a 1365*768 image.

    • And none of them have a "notchless" 3:2 OLED screen, for which I was always willing to pay more.
