The Most Disappointing Games of 2007

Recommended Posts

Yes, but by that logic you could say Crysis and Half-Life 2 also weren't hyped. I don't agree with his opinion, but Bioshock was hyped in the press and by gamers.

The review scores were high and a lot of people liked it, yes. I guess I view hype as seeing a game's release as an event. Bioshock wasn't like that, at least not with anything I saw. There weren't many extensive previews of it (although it made a big splash at E3 for a couple years). It was a (sorta) new IP that impressed a lot of people on its release.

Either way, not a big deal. It's his opinion (Y)

Games that sucked:

- Halo 2 PC (same old crap)

- Supreme Commander (lacking gameplay)

- Command & Conquer 3

- Crysis

Games that were OK:

- Unreal Tournament 3 (same old game with better graphics, can't complain)

- Oblivion (too much grinding, boring items)

- Gears of War PC (it's fun, but poorly adapted to the PC)

Games that were awesome:

- Bioshock

- Half-Life 2: Episode 2

- Team Fortress 2

- Portal

- Call of Duty 4

But Bioshock wasn't hyped. Halo 3 had a huge marketing campaign behind it. Bioshock had a single TV spot (at least in the States). I'm confused here. What hype are you talking about?

Sorry, it's this site I'm a part of called Xbox360Leagues.net. One of the admins (Stevie D 1969) were excited to death about Bioshock, he even created a special page on the site for the countdown to the game, and included content each day (wallpapers, trailers, etc.).

Let's just say on the site, most of the staff have an obsession with a game that the others usually disagree with. Stevie is currently obsessed with Call of Duty 4, I'm obsessed with Guitar Hero III (that will change to Rock Band come March 8).

So to those that's saying Crysis is disappointing, is it because you guys are playing in low/medium quality? :|

Even if they were playing on low/medium quality, changing the settings to high wouldn't change the fact that the gameplay apparently blows (that's the vibe I'm getting from them).

cod4 is quite awesome

except for the last, hollywood-style level. it just felt unreal, that's it.

Bioshock , 5 mins. on the demo was all i need.

Halo 3 didn't let me down(i didn't like the 1st halo)( i think 3 best 2 good 1 ok) but halo 3 was my 1st one to play online. and i don't like the halo gameplay much ever (run and gun grrr). i just love the story :)

well i didn't like the ending because *we didn't finish the fight.*

Each to their own. BioShock was simply class.

Crysis <-- Damn bulletproof Koreans, America has no chance!

Bioshock

Kayne & Lynch

Need for Speed: Prostreet

SimCity: Societies

I never got what the fuss was all about regarding Bioshock, I played around half way through the game and I was bored of it, I didn't go back to it again.

Kane and Lynch

Pro Street

SoF3

Crysis - Somewhat the zero-gravity spaceship level on high graphics was just... mind blowingly good

Airborne

Timeshift - slightly

To the article, Shadowrun should not be in there. It is the most fun multiplayer game I have ever played on a console! So so so fun, great twist on the whole shoot em up MP genre.

I considered playing The Elder Scolls IV: Obvilion. I thought it has been around for a while but it was good? I guess the classics are good. Something to depend on when dissapointed by other games. It's kinda like playing Civ IV, Battlefield 2 and COD4 to me.

I would say Heavenly Sword is a a dissappointing game. It's very good and very disappointing at the same time. The levels are epic, with so many enemies on screen and the flashy moves, but they feel so linear. The levels don't seem cohesive to convey one big storyline. The graphics is very nice, but it's disappointing that the movement space is so limited (hallways, bridges, predefined paths); plus there is no 3D camera. That just sucks. Other than that, it is a very great game.

Halo 3 is also dissappointing. I didn't feel the graphics, and gameplay improve all that much. It feels more like an expansion.

So is Oblivion. Granted, I didn't play much, but the environments don't seem varied enough. All I see is trees. Hah. It just doesn't have the same charm as Morrowind.

Agreed with quoted. Removed Oblivion because I didn't play it and liked C&C 3 :)

Funny, that was one of the parts I hated.

1) Halo 3, to an extent. Everyone complains that the graphics weren't great, but i think they were just fine. They weren't the greatest, but they were in line with the rest of the series while still being a whole lot better with the obvious boost in power. My problem with the game mostly is the length and the story. I just think the stories for Halo 2 and subsequently 3 feel so tacked on, and distant from the first game. And for a final installment to a (somewhat undeservingly) hyped game series, it really should have been a whole lot longer. That and the fricking flood! My least favorite parts of any of the halo games were parts that involved the flood. They go from wonderful and dynamic AI firefights to one mindless creature after another running straight at you; and unless you have that shotgun, they aren't going down without a bazillion shots.

2) Mass Effect, to an extent, although I can't say that quite yet until I've played a whole lot more of the game. Don't get me wrong; it *is* a great game and all, and the voice acting/dialog system is top-notch; it just isn't quite what i was expecting; not open-ended enough (thus far). I wasn't expecting planetary visits involving only one key building filled with maze-like, small passageways that make no structural sense.

3) Lair. I don't even own a PS3, nor did I really notice anything about the game until it was released; but it looks like the kind of game I would have loved to play were it not riddled with terrible problems.

Could not agree with you more Halo 3 was a massive disappointment, well the single player was. Bioshock was much better however that was only single player so maybe that is why.

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out.
