Halo 3 DLC: Foundry Soccer

Haha, this looks so cool! I can't wait to play around with this. :D

Step 4 - Game On!

Finally I saved everything and we were ready to play. We played the game with two teams of three and then myself acting as the referee (as a Forge monitor). This worked out really well. As the monitor I would grab the ball and drop it down in the middle, sort of like a game of Foosball, and from there things got crazy.

The red and blue teams started wildly swinging their hammers, pushing the ball across the field. It was cool to see the "corner kick" Mancannons come into play almost immediately. In fact, it later became a big strategic objective as some players made end-to-end goals by carefully hitting the ball into the cannons or feeding it to the shooter who waited in front of the opponent's goal. At the very least, it provides a really fast way to get the ball up field to your teammates.

The Portable Cover equipment can be picked up by a member of each team and deployed as a last ditch effort to thwart a score. This actually worked quite well in our game.

When a team scored, the monitor flies over and picks up the ball to reset the play again. At one point there was some controversy on the field and we decided a penalty was in order. You know those signs I mentioned earlier? Well, they happen to be Yellow and Red so I dropped a big sign ontop of the offending player, the Halo 3 equivalent of issuing a Yellow Card in a game. Totally unnecessary but totally hilarious.

I also highly recommend that the referee/monitor also provides humorous play-by-play during the match along with yelling "GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!" when a score is finally made.

Bungie will be releasing new multiplayer maps that will be downloadable via Xbox Live on December 11, 2007. The "Heroic Map Pack" The map pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points (US$10) and will consist of three maps, entitled Standoff, Rat's Nest, and Foundry. The maps will also have more addable features in Forge, including placeable mancannons (large gravity lifters) and shield doors, objects which were static parts of the environment in the game's original maps.

Nevermind. Reading the full article told me what I needed to know :)

Well I am not waiting for them to be free, I am getting them on Tuesday :) Like everyone else I am sure...

Not me! ;)

Not everyone is a Halo fanboy. In fact some of us actually think it's a little bit overrated. =)

what bargain bin you digging around in ?

I've seen plenty of games go for that price, most Original Xbox games are that price if you look around enough and you can even pick up a few 360 games, not to mention XBLA.

A lot of people on BNet are whining about the price, even though 3 months after release they become completely free.

I haven't decided rather or not I'm going to hold off on them or not.

Was it really necessary to say that?

With Halo 2, I got the DLC immediately, even when it cost money. I don't think I'm going to right now. I'm not sure what's different - I think it may have actually been too fast to release new maps. I mean, the game hasn't even been out for 3 months yet and they already want us to spend more money on it - I'm still workin on my original $70. I also think we were cut better deals on map pricing for Halo 2 - I could be wrong, though, I don't really remember.

I think I'll pass on the maps until they're free as well. I bought a few of the Halo 2 map packs and they really weren't worth it, you had to play in the special matchmaking lists that included the new maps and even then you rarely played them. I'll stick to custom games on Sandtrap for now.

Was it really necessary to say that?

I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying it's not the best game ever made, as some would argue. And I dare say I'm not the only one who's excited about a couple of new maps being added for half the price of a full 360 game (if you know where to look, that is).

Perhaps as a PC gamer, I'm just a little bit spoiled because it's the type of thing we would get thrown in with a patch (along with some extra features), especially if it's something like the Unreal series. In fact, I can't think of a PC FPS that ever charged for additional multiplayer maps.

Quick question. For those of us (myself included) who are waiting for these maps to be free, will we still be able to play in matchmaking?

I`m only asking because when Bungie released that last map pack for Halo 2, I couldn`t play in matchmaking at all because I didn`t have those maps in my queue. That ended my Halo 2 playing till H3, and when those maps became free.

Thanks to anyone who can answer this question. :)

I think Bungie said they would create seperate playlists for the new maps. You'll still be able to play Matchmaking without the maps.

Yes, it will be a transparent process...

Specifically, if you have Halo 3 on the 11th, but not the new maps ? you will be able to see the new Playlist, but you won?t be able to enter it. A polite message will pop up and explain that you don?t have the content. As Tyson has mentioned, there will be a playlist devoted entirely to the new maps, and those maps will also be incorporated into ?normal? playlists. In the ?normal? Matchmaking Playlists that incorporate the new maps, a bit of code will check to see who in the lobby has the new maps ? if it?s everyone, then there?s a greater chance it will pick a new map, and if even one person doesn?t have the map, it will pick one of the original shipping maps, so nobody misses a beat.

    • I use Gemini in my rotation of AI clients...that work pays for. It is good at most things, better than copilot for imgage searching and making images, worse at writing vs Claude and way worse at hadling technical issues when it comes to Azure stuff. I also use YT premium and maps. Anything else Google is a pass for me. I have now seen multiple people locked out of their Google accounts for reasons that are just very vauge.
    • Microsoft is building an AI datacenter that "uses less water than a fast food restaurant" by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced plans to build a new datacenter campus in Pecos, Texas, as the company continues to invest billions in AI infrastructure. The new facility, called project Kilby, will reportedly have a capacity of 2 gigawatts and will be one of the largest single capacity additions in the company’s history. To power the campus, Microsoft signed a 20-year deal with Chevron to supply natural gas from the Permian Basin, America's largest oil field. This deal is set to become the largest collaboration to date between a U.S. oil and gas giant and Big Tech. It’s no secret that Big Tech has often been criticized for exploiting natural resources for its AI developments. Microsoft is trying to mitigate some of that negative consensus by promising to build its own power supply for the new datacenter, independent of the public grid. The Pecos datacenter will be powered by a power plant hub, built by Chevron, with up to 2.5 gigawatts of gas-fired capacity, with potential to scale to up to 5 gigawatts. The facility will include at least seven GE Vernova turbines, with first power potentially coming online as early as late 2027 or early 2028. The power plant hub is part of an approximately $7 billion investment by Chevron, making it one of the largest dedicated energy projects tied to a single datacenter campus in the U.S. Microsoft hasn’t publicly disclosed the amount it’s investing in the new datacenter. Microsoft has also committed to implementing a closed-loop cooling system that will only require an initial water charge to operate. The company said that “the total lifecycle water use of this datacenter is only a fraction of that consumed annually by a typical fast-food restaurant.” What the press release doesn’t mention, however, is how much water the natural gas plant itself will consume, or how a 20-year fossil fuel commitment squares with the company's pledge to be carbon negative by 2030. The construction of the new datacenter should provide over 6,000 construction jobs at peak build-out, and create hundreds of operational job roles once the facility is built. Via: Reuters
    • A lot of uncertainty in this story. Might. Could. Maybe. The truth is we don't know what will happen to the universe in the end, or if it will end. Our own Milky Way galaxy will merge with the Andromeda galaxy in about 2.5 billion years, with our solar system as part of a new, larger cluster. I guess we'll have to and see how it goes down.
    • While people can rely on text expansion, it'd be nice to be able to save prompts as aliases. Since AI chatbots need so much provided context to lessen the chance of them going off rails in their response, it'd be nice to be able to start your prompt with a command word that provides all the necessary context that you find yourself often providing. I know there are 'memory' features, including in Gemini, but I still find myself needing to tell it things in each specific conversation for it to give appropriate responses in many contexts. For example, I have it in the memory that I'm running Fedora 44 KDE Plasma 6.7 yet Gemini constantly gives me instructions for older versions. Once I remind it what I'm running, it corrects itself. This isn't something I should need to do every time I prompt it about my setup.
