Sharing Applications Installed in Windows Server 2003

Recommended Posts

We have some windows application that are currently installed in our server system (win2003 server). Is there anyway, that other windows XP that happen to be in the same workgroup use the application in the server?

Since the apps are not used regularly, I dont want to burden all the clients machine with installation of all the apps. So, the best way is to install in the server, and SHARE the application whenever needed. Is there anyway to do this?

thank you

You could try installing the software on on of the server's shared directories. You will need to install on each of the client's machines and either point them at their own personal shared directory (i.e. C:\PRGMS\MACHINE1INSTALL .. MACHINE2INSTALL, etc.) or install on each machine pointing to the same directory (i.e. C:\PRGMS). Be advised that this is probably not going to work very well. Mind telling what application it is?

As ntbnnt said, you could share the programme's folder and run it from there. It's never guaranteed to work, but I've often had more success when I've MAPPED the shared folder to a drive letter on my PC before running the executable.

The upcoming published applications feature of Windows Server 2008 is pretty cool too.
