Linksys and Realtek Problem?

I have a WRT54G v4 and a computer with a Realtek RTL8139 modem. If I plug in the PC with the Realtek modem, I get some mad lag network wide. Is there some issue with Realtek and earlier versions of the WRT54G that I should know about? I have updated firmware on the router and the newest Realtek driver.

It isn't a modem problem since you seem to be comparing the "mad lag" to not using the router. Check your firewall connections?

No, no. You misunderstood. I plug the computer using Realtek into my router and it causes network wide lag.

No firewalls.

Router firewall is also off.

Nothing on the computer is causing the lag. I've checked up and down about 57 times.

Do you have a spare router you can compare it with? If not, I really suggest asking for a replacement or calling customer support.

I borrowed a friends Linksys router.. It's one of the older wireless B models.

Anyways, same problem.

Check the network activity in task manager. Maybe something is saturating the network? With some cards, particularly Marvell based cards I've had odd problems when using certain drivers (such as the ones provided on Windows Update) but those were more general connectivity problems like dropouts.

Nothing on the PC seems to be the problem.

I have tried two different cables, one of which is brand new.

Ok for starters -- I highly doubt your plugging your PC into your router with using the PCs "modem" -- you mean network interface? ;)

What exact ethernet card do you have? What is the Model number? Who is the maker -- the realtek chips can be used in quite a few different makers cards.

For example I have a netgear GA311, but am using the realtek driver for the RTL8169/8110

Also WTF is "mad lag" actually mean?? Give us an example how you feel your whole network is lagging when you use this network card? What is the ping times to your router, to other machines on your network? If you unplug this PC with the realtek card, what is the ping times for other machines on you network to your router, to each other?

It is possible that the card is bad an putting a bunch of traffic on the network -- which could overload your switch, etc. But some details of what you mean by "mad lag" would help us determine what the issue might be.
