Ultimate Steal Download After 30days

Question

I recently had to format my PC, not through choice, and lost everything including Microsoft Office 2007. I got it via the Ultimate steal and they only offer download for up to 30 days after purchase. I still have the serial so where would be the place to go and download it again?

thanks

Knowingly partaking in an illegal transfer of copyrighted material is, as one would guess, illegal. If you lose something that you paid for, then you must contact the vendor for legal replacement options. I believe MS offers inexpensive replacement discs.

oh get off your high horse will you....he can simply download the trial version office 2007 ultimate and then validate it with his legit key......your advice is nonsense.....why would you want to spend countless hours trying to fix something that is so simple ?

Not to run it into the ground, but surely the easiest thing to do is contact Microsoft first? That way you know you're getting a legit download or CD and one that matches your serial number. Anything else seems iffy in a legal sense.

It was my understanding that Microsoft doesn't care if you download the software "legally" or not, as long as you pay for a license.

It's been my understand for quite some time now that microsoft does not allow you to download software from anyone but themselves legal or not. Even trial software has to come directly from their server or a server they licensed distribute it. You can not just go download a office torrent and use your cd key... sounds alright... but they, if they catch you downloading it, will send you an infringement letter and possibly your ISP also to have you disconnected from the internet... they take it more seriously then you may think... just look at autopatcher's fiasco a couple months ago

I highly, highly doubt Microsoft spends resources tracking down Bittorrent seeds like the RIAA. It would be a huge waste of time and money. They spend their resources eliminating piracy via activation and other similar methods. The authors of Autopatcher were notified because they were a large group that was developing Autopatcher. If Autopatcher was a one-man thing, with only 5 people max downloading the software, I don't think Microsoft would have cracked down on it.

As far as being 100% legal, yes, the only way to do it is to download the file from Microsoft's servers.

High horse? Because I have an understanding of basic laws? How about you get off your milk crate, instead.

Wana bet? they have an entire department devoted to that!

Ah but Microsoft has repeatedly said you are paying for the license, not the software. Besides, if you paid for the key and it's for personal use MS cannot do a thing about it. An infringement letter and resulting disconnection would be grounds for a lawsuit.

Not really, they could come back and say you where promoting piracy by distribution of the software... they have all kinds of tricks up their sleves

Such an argument would be contrary to their license claims, making them look foolish in court. That also depends on what kind of distribution method you use to get it. Getting it through IRC, directconnect or a newsgroup would not amount to distribution, only downloading.

Couldn't be more wrong, it is illegal to obtain the software anywhere but from Microsoft.

Yep, that the telephone activation always work. Just remember you can punch the numbers in with the keypad on the phone to. You don't have to speak them all.

No offence guys but I like twice had problems with legit software from MS. First thing I did was ring them up. They sorted it straight away both times, end of problem. For the rubbish they put their legit users through, they do actually want the software to work for them. :D

I think the only legal thing really is to contact Microsoft and get replacement media or a download link they give you (if they will do that).

This is the best option. :) Contact Microsoft Fulfillment if that site sold it via Academic Licensing, or you can try this Knowledge Base article on replacing your Office media: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822

You dont have to speak to them? whenever i have done it before with operating systems they speak to me and ask me why i need to reactivate before supplying me with a number to type in.

Anyway i e-mailed Microsoft and this is this is the response i got (i replied asking whether i would be given the same serial because in which case i'll just phone them up)

This is an update so that anyone having the same problem and comes accross this post knows what to do.

You can download your copy of Office Ultimate 2007 via the Ultimate Steals websites trial ultimate edition which can be found here https://store.digitalriver.com/servlet/Cont...p;SiteID=msshuk Note: you will have to login first.

Once you have downloaded the trial edition it will prompt for your serial number, if you have lost that you can also find that through the link i just posted. As mentioned in previous posts downloading the Enterprise version and using your serial will not work and will prompt for you to call them up for validation.

If like me you e-mail Microsoft they will try to get you to buy a backup DVD (see above) despite the fact you can download it for free.

The problem with downloading software that you own a licence to is that you also upload it to people that do not, making it illegal. However, if you own a legitimate licence I would say that it is fair to aquire the software by any means because you can demonstrate to Microsoft if questioned that you own it - although not stictly legal, like backing up CDs, it is fair use with no malicious intent.

You would only be uploading if you use a torrent though, rather than other ways of filesharing.

Is it "illegal" to download it off a torrent? Yes. Is it immoral? NO. You legally own the license! I fail to understand why some people go like "OH MY GOD DON'T DO IT, YOU'RE GOING TO GET SUED BY MICROSOFT, YOU THIEF, PIRATE". Just use your common sense, download the damn thing and be done with it. Jesus :D

I found a far simplier way. Go to http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/...ft-Office.shtml and download the Office trial. When it asks for a key, just use the one from the ultimate steal.

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
