Torchwood Children of Earth Preview Coming Soon

The BBC have recently confirmed that the first official preview of Torchwood series three, a five part series entitled Children of Earth, will be shown at this year's New York Comic Con. Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper in Torchwood, and director Euros Lyn will be in attendance of the convention and both of them will also be hosting a special panel about the show. You can visit the convention's official website here and view a press release about the showing of this preview clip here. The BBC have also confirmed today that the preview will be available on the official Torchwood website as soon as it is released. If all goes to plan, it should hopefully then be available to view here on this site shortly afterwards. Are you looking forward to this Torchwood series three preview?

NYCC: Why death will haunt Torchwood: Children of Earth (Source)

Eve Myles, the star of BBC America's Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood, told SCI FI Wire that last season's death will inform the action in the upcoming five-episode third season, Children of Earth. (Spoilers ahead!) In the season finale, Owen (Burn Gorman) and Tosh (Naoko Mori) perished, and the team has to unravel the fallout of a secret pact the government forged with an alien race.

"It's quite important that everybody knows [that] in between the second and third series, we did a Radio 4 audio drama and a small stint on Doctor Who, so the grieving process for our characters were dealt with in that time period," Myles said in an exclusive interview at New York Comic Con over the weekend. "The characters went out with a bang?super characters, fantastic storylines. They'll be legends forever. But there is a strong essence of them all the way through this one. They highlight more than anything that life is very short and dangerous in Torchwood. They are the biggest symbols of that this year, ... but life carries on in Torchwood."

The show was a surprise hit at New York Comic Con, and on Saturday the room was packed with fans who have enthusiastically embraced the quirky sci-fi hit, which airs stateside on BBC America.

The trailer from the impending (and as-yet-unscheduled) five-part third season screened before Myles (who plays Gwen Cooper) and season-three director Euros Lyn answered questions from the audience.

Later, in an interview, they expressed gratitude at the enthusiastic response. "The acceptance has blown us away," Myles said with more than a little awe. "The response, the positive energy and kindness we have received, is phenomenal. We hope the next [season] is taken aboard, as well as the last seasons."

Lyn added, "It is genuinely exciting for us to be making this show in Wales for our home audience and discovering that what we deal in, the universal stories of love and loss and heroism, appeal to a global audience, and it's truly exciting."

Torchwood centers on the adventures of the paranormal investigators of the Cardiff, Wales, branch of the Torchwood Institute, led by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and teammates Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd).

Children of Earth represents a changeup in the series structure, downsizing from its typical 13-episode season to this new five-episode format.

"We have five hours to tell one huge, grand story this year," Lyn explained. "It's such a brilliant opportunity to develop relationships and build on stories that build to an epic climax. I'm directing all five episodes, and that's a real treat."

Asked if they missed not having as many hours to tell their arc, Myles said no. "I think the stronger storylines of the last seasons are the ones that were spread out over four, five and six episodes," she said. "I'm not saying if we were to go back to 13 parts I wouldn't enjoy it. It's all challenging, but this particular format and this story has allowed us to explore Gwen much deeper, in a much more layered way. We had fun with it and played around with it, where with individual episodes you don't really have time to do that. I also think it helps that everyone knows what Torchwood is now, so we don't have to explain it anymore, and what you see in this series is just the team trying to do their job and doing the best they possibly can. It's really awesome."

As to what fans can expect from police liaison Gwen in season three, Myles teased with a laugh. "Oh, Gwen!" she said. "She just keeps evolving into something that is always real, always grounded, always gracious and will always be in awe of everything she sees. She'll never lose that, because she's not a superhero and she doesn't have magic powers. She's me and you. So she's constantly evolving and getting stronger and becoming the born leader she was always meant to be, and in this [season] it becomes more evident. You see her struggling and becoming bigger and better, and also falling on her face ... literally. We see Gwen becoming exactly what she was destined to become with Torchwood."

As to the future of Torchwood, Lyn said he is hopeful this season will push the momentum for a fourth incarnation. "Season three is five episodes as a miniseries, and where it goes after that remains to be seen," he said. "As a concept it's strong enough to go on a myriad of directions. I think we'll see how this series goes down, and then we'll take it from there." Torchwood: Children of Earth is expected to sometime in the summer.

Torchwood Series has an Airdate!

After months of speculation, the third series of the Doctor Who spin-off show, Torchwood, is to be broadcast on BBC1 in June.

The British Film Institute are hosting a preview of the first episode on Friday, 12th June at the National Film Theatre in London. This would suggest that Torchwood: Children of Earth will start broadcasting on 15th June. As previously announced by the BBC, the five-part series will be aired over five consecutive nights though it would appear that this format will not be observed when it is screened on BBC America.

The event at the NFT also includes a Q&A with guests from the cast and creative team. The BFi have also supplied a synopsis for the first installment (those avoiding spoilers may want to look away now):

1965: Twelve children are gathered on a deserted moor, before being surrounded by a harsh, bright light .... and then they are gone!

Today: all over Earth, children stop moving. Stop playing, stop laughing. Then, as one, they begin to speak with the same voice, announcing the imminent arrival of a new alien threat. "We are coming...". As the British government closes ranks, it issues a death warrant against Captain Jack and Torchwood...

      While LibreOffice is not pleased to see a new competitor, they are absolutely correct in stating that Euro-Office using a MS file standard as a default is not being truly "European." Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)

And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. The June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates are now publicly available. Windows 11 users can download KB5094126, which introduces plenty of new features and security updates, including the Low-latency Profile for better performance, shared Bluetooth audio support, and more. Windows 10 users with PCs enrolled in the Extended Security Update program can download KB5094127. In addition, Microsoft released new Defender updates for its operating systems. Speaking of Defender, Microsoft will now deliver EDR updates via Microsoft Update for faster security improvements independent of Patch Tuesday updates. Following the release of this month's Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft also published new Windows 11 images available in the Media Creation Tool app. Now, you can create bootable USB media for clean Windows 11 installations with the latest releases. Some unfortunate stuff is going on with certain PCs from Dell and HP. Dell acknowledged that the SupportAssist bug causes black screens of death, while HP systems are suffering from Secure Boot update issues and boot loops. Both companies issued official advisories. Windows Insider Program Here is what Microsoft released for Windows Insiders this week: Builds Canary Channel Builds 29610.1000 and 28120.2302 This week's "Canary" builds only contain performance improvements and fixes, including the Low-latency mode, which is now available in the Stable channel for all Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 users. Dev Channel Build 26300.8687 Microsoft brought some useful File Explorer changes with this build. You can now open folders in a new tab by middle-clicking them in the address bar. Beta Channel Build 26220.8680 and 28020.2298 Screen Tint, improved Windows Widgets, and other enhancements are included in this week's Beta releases. Release Preview Channel Builds 26200.8728 and 26100.8728 These builds also feature better widgets, new Windows Update controls, point-in-time restore, File Explorer improvements, and more. In addition to new Windows 11 preview builds, Microsoft announced that inbox Windows 11 apps now have their dedicated release notes in the official documentation. Also, Microsoft dropped massive feature updates for six apps, including Paint, Clock, Calculator, Camera, Media Player, Photos, and more. Google has some bad news for those still using MV2-based extensions in Chromium-based browsers, particularly Chrome. The company is now removing flags responsible for Manifest V2-based extensions (uBlock Origin is one of the most popular). However, some browsers resist this change, and Opera issued a statement that it will allow users to continue using MV2 extensions for as long as possible. While Microsoft is still not ready to share new details about MV2 extensions in Microsoft Edge, the company shared important details about the way it will be updating the browser going forward. Now, Microsoft wants to update Edge every two weeks across all platforms instead of the current four-week schedule (only the Extended Stable is exempt from this change). This week, Microsoft confirmed a useful new Teams feature that is coming to the messenger soon. It also detailed all the improvements that made the platform better for users in 2026. However, not all changes are great, as the company is moving ahead with the check-in feature, which many believe will lead to employee monitoring. PowerToys received a feature update this week. Version 0.100 arrived with a big rework for the Shortcut Guide, a new extension gallery for Command Palette, new Dock features, and plenty of other changes. Additionally, the studio confirmed a bug with Forza Horizon 6 wiping saves for some gamers. It also had to shut down one of the game's online modes after users discovered an infinite money glitch. NVIDIA announced new games for the GeForce NOW streaming service and a big Summer sale that lets you get 12 months of GeForce NOW for $35 or $70 less, depending on the tier.       Microsoft Flight Simulator's City Update 15 enhances Midwest cities by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The third major city update of the year has landed for the original Microsoft Flight Simulator and the 2024 release. The latest drop is upgrading the visuals and regional accuracy of three metropolitan regions in the American states of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The 15th city update is adding eight new areas of interest that have been enhanced with high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing in the mentioned regions. The free update highlights Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights in Illinois, as well as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, the development has also upgraded the lands and buildings of Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. The update lands just as one of the world's largest enthusiast flight simulation conventions, FlightSimExpo, kicks off in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 14. The Flight Sim development team's 40-minute keynote at the event can be watched here. At the same time, Microsoft is bringing the 6-seat, single-engine, multi-use light civil airplane Piper M600 into the game as a part of its Expert Series 2 program. This premium plane can be purchased from the in-game marketplace for $24.99. City Update 15: The United States Midwest is now available in Microsoft Flight Simulator, as well as the newer Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, as an optional download. It can be accessed across Steam and the Microsoft Store for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Xbox One, mobile, and PC players can also jump into the new content using Xbox Cloud Gaming if they have a Game Pass Ultimate membership.
