Vista & Dualcore (msconfig)

Recommended Posts

Just seing the Dualcore tweeking guide for XP in the guides section got me thinking, so i jumped into msconfig and pressed advanced, and i noticed something interesting, even though im running a dualcore (see sig for specs) ive got the following showing.

Is this normal to show thw number of processors blanked out, surly it should be ticked and saying 2 processors shouldnt it?

I think when the option is not selected, it will be blanked on the lowest option possible. If you look to the right on your screenshot, you'll notice the same with the memory option.

edit: Just read your question fully. Don't know if you have to select the option and what exactly it will do.

although you will notice if you click the check box by memory, it pops up to 2048 (the ammount of memory i have installed), and stays that way when you un-check it, though if you do the same with procesors it stays at 1... hmmm

i want to change the option, but i know thats a bad idea

I'm sure those options are if you want to set the environment variables yourself. I would leave the options alone as windows will select the best options for you automatically.

It says 1 for number of processors because that's how many it's coded to say initially before it is activated and does not reflect your actual configuration.
