Does the PS3 support a USB mouse?

Recommended Posts

Hmm, interesting. So your average Wireless set that uses a USB transciever might not work? Walmart has a cheap set for about $20.

Can anyone recommend a specific set?

Thanks again for all of your input!

There is a chance it may work, I have not worked with RF wireless keyboards and mice before, all the ones I own are Bluetooth. You can pick up the $20 set and if it does not work return it. Heck I got an old USB Mac keyboard hooked up to my PS3 with a MS optical USB mouse. :D

so like you have 2 options for wireless mice, get a proprietary RF mouse and plug the dongle into the ps3's usb, or get a bluetooth mouse and use the ps3's native bluetooth...

if your looking for a wireless bluetooth mouse, what do you think of using this? i think it would make an interesting combination... apple and sony together...

Considering Apple backs blue ray, don't think it would be all that interesting. I just remembered I had an apple BT keyboard I wasn't using so I just paired it up with my PS3, amazing the keyboard still remembers the name I gave it LOL. The irony is me having the MS optical mouse hooked to my PS3.

So I do take it the RF reciver type KB/M work fine on the PS3, I was not sure. Means they work on the 360 as well. :)

If you want to do serious web browsing on the PS3 I suggest you install linux of some kind - uBuntu or YDL perhaps?

The browser accessible from the XMB is based on the Netfront browser, the same that the PSP/Mylo uses..

It does the job, but will get cranky if you have too many windows open - and it is pretty slow :p

(Also, flash 7 is the highest it supports..)

Yeah I hope they improve it one day...

Yeah I am going to use the 40GB drive for linux exclusively sometime when I get a larger drive, but I also have a media center PC hooked up to the TV I can browse the net on as well.

I've used wireless mouse and keyboard (same usb connector). It wasn't bluetooth and it worked just fine so I guess it was "RF".

Yeah that would be RF.

Thanks everyone for your reply's. OMG! The web browser works GREAT. Right now I have a wired mouse and keyboard. So far VERY IMPRESED!!!

Off to pick up a nice wireless set tomorrow.

Thanks again!

BTW, I must say, gaming leaves something to be desired on the PS3. Why in the h3ll did they limit all the games to 720P? I downloaded a few demos that I also have on the 360. They look pretty bad on a 1080p TV in comparison. Oh well. I only wanted this for a BluRay player and internet access. Anyway, thanks again.

they didn't limit them. the x360 renders at 720p/1080i for a lot of games the same as the ps3 does, but the x360 has an upscaler chip that upscales all its output to 1080p.

blame the game developer, not the system. most of the psn games use 1080p, as does stuff like gt5. you may even be suprised to learn that a lot of games don't actually render at full 720p neither, just scaled at 720p, which is kinda naughty.

    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
