Broadcom teaming of NICs x64 Windows Server 2003

Recommended Posts

Alright I am kinda mad about this one... we just bought a DL140 G3 HP Server for a development test server... we got one with 2 NIC's to team them for load balancing of the conneciton and stuff since it will run SQL Server and host a lot of connections during tests... well it doesn't come with a smart start cd! all of our other HP servers came with smart start... except this one... all it came with was a driver CD..

well after the fun of trying to figure out what hardware was in the system! which HP doesn't tell you... figured out its a Broadcom Net Extreme server board with 2 NIC ports and a BCM5721 chip.. which SHOULD be teamable... well it says run the BASP application in start > control panel well guess what there is none... ugh.. the drive HP gave is just the driver! nothing else.. no config software or anything... I can find a full driver with management sets for 32bit but not 64bit... anyone have any clue where to get these at? on broadcom's site it just lists the driver only... just like HP does... how in the world am I supose to configure teaming? any help would be great.. thanks!

I didn't look, but you couldn't you use of the other CDs that came with your severs?

I know its not a dell, but I think Dell's web site may have the software you're looking for. They also use Broadcom NICs on their boards.

The other CD's when you put them in say unsupported server... HP goes out of its way to prevent one set of discs from being used in another server that isn't the supported models... smart start is great... when its a supported server... it installs all the drivers for you and sets it up basically...

I'm looking on dell right now for drivers for the 2950 power vault system which is the closest to the DL140 and they do have them but have yet to try them... gona do that now

List of all drivers etc for your server

(OS is set as Windows server 2003 x64)

Ste, HP unfortinuatly does NOT include the managment programs on that site for the broadcom drivers... just the drivers.. which is my problem, I need the management software... all the HP nic managment on there just gives you software for the HP NC seriese NIC's

nope thats for Net extreme 2 which is a different controller... they wont even install on my system.. the installer just stops says cant continue and closes... trying to install the dell drivers right now but my server is going so unbelievably slow at shutting down (its installing updates... ugh)...

that seems like what you need.

"This package contains the teaming and configuration utility for HP ProLiant NICs running under Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions. This utility allows you to configure and manage fault-tolerant teams of adapters installed in ProLiant servers. "

Dell drivers are a no go... start to install them it comes back "install interupted could not continue"

Beat you to that one... just noticed it and downloading it now... not sure it will work though... everything else failed on there...

What was the name of the file you downloaded from the Dell website? The one I think you need is named Bcom_LAN_105_35_W2K364_A03.exe. If you manually extract it using WinZip or WinRAR, you should be able to extract the folder with the installer for the Driver/Management Tools. Try running that installer and see what you get. I don't think that installer is customized for Dell; I think it's the standard Broadcom installer for the Driver/Management Tools.

You can find that download here: Dell Drivers & Support

If you have any current drivers installed, uninstall them first. Then try running the installer.

Bcom_LAN_105_35_W2K364_A03.exe doesn't work says "Unsupported hardware" after installer starts... but I have good news! IBM actually had the drivers on their site! the actual non-branded drives straight from Broadcomm.. and they WORK! YAY!

We use the HP DL380 G5's here with nic teaming/broadcom nics. Granted our software came with the server, but we do nic teaming with the HP management software that is posted above. The best plan of action i would recomend if that is not working is to give HP a call and see what they say. Thier network management software is what you want to use, not somthing from broadcom.

HP only makes management software for the NC series of Intel and Broadcom chips... this is just a netextreme chip which HP has no management software for... even for the 32bit version HP uses the broadcomm managment software.. my problem was I needed 64bit..
