IGN Previews MGS4 at CES 2008 & 5 Min Video Demo!

Recommended Posts

US, January 7, 2008 - At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony had a special visitor at its booth as Konami was on hand to show off a playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 4. This is the same demo that was on display during the 2007 E for All expo in Los Angeles, so there weren't too many revelations made during our demonstration, however, we were able to get some hands on time with the game and many of our worries were put to rest.

One of the features found in Metal Gear Solid 4 is that the game is fully compliant with the new Dual Shock 3 controller, so we were able to feel every shot that we fired and every bullet that hit us in the game, and this could be a solid indication that Sony is back on track with the force feedback functionality that it's current home console is missing.

Another thing that we noticed is that the game looks absolutely stunning. Everything is rendered in fine detail from the war-torn middle-eastern city that the level took place in, right down to the individual hairs on Snake's 'stache. When we asked whether or not the game will be able to run at 60 fps at 1080p, Konami said that things were still being optimized and they can't promise anything, things were on the right track.

Though Kojima Productions and Konami aren't ready to announce a final release date, they did mention to us that we should hear that announcement in late February. As soon as Konami formally announces a date for MGS 4, we'll be sure to let you know, but until then, expect Solid Snake's latest adventure to arrive sometime during Q2, 2008.

Over 70 Weapons in MGS4: New English Demo Footage

mg3-copy.jpg

Kojima revealed at TGS that there would be over 70 weapons in Metal Gear Solid 4, and what?s more they would be customisable. With CES going on right now, we are getting new footage of some of these weapons. Watching these five new videos from the MGS4 English demo, it?s almost safe to say that Kojima has done it again.

Kojima continues to announce new features, such as being able to play the game in First Person Mode, suggesting that there isn?t anything Snake can?t do. Furthermore, with over 70 weapons, MGS4 is going to be one of the most feature full games to come out in 2008.

In this following video from youtube user Konrad52, you can see the epic weapon shown in the title image - the rocket launcher, ?Javelin?.

MGS4 will have the most diverse array of weapons yet seen in a Metal Gear game, not only because of the sheer amount, but that you can modify each weapon extensively.

As you get hold of new gear, you can add scopes, flashlights, shotguns, grenade launchers and more. This gear can be added to your weapons on pre-determined mounts to create something that will help you get through your diverse enemy encounters.

We only wish they would let all PS3 owners get hold of this demo, but at the moment this looks unlikely.

Here you can watch Parts 1, 2 and 3 of Konrad52?s footage of the MGS4 English demo at CES.

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.

    • The high cost of labor and operating within the US. Donald hasn't been able to figure that out--pathetic.
