Welcome to Game Ratings

Recommended Posts

Just a thought, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a poll at the top of every review, 1-10, to see how everybody else rates it.

Then people would be able to see what the reviewer rated it, and the general rating from the rest of the forum.

I think that's up to the individual poster. We're all aware that topic ratings can get abused, so a poll is probably going to offer better insight than the topic rating will - but we won't force this on people - that's up to them to decide if they want to do. But generally, I think it's quite a nice idea.

We'll whatever it is, it should be changed soon.

How about removing tags all together, and in the sub title, just place what console your reviewing for? then inside the top at the top, discuss what platforms it is available for.

But if we must get indepth, there are only a few platforms. Wii, Xbox360, PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, PC

Any others? Maybe a lettering system like monkey13 suggested?

Shouldn't have to limit it to 1 letter, though. That can get confusing differentiating between, say, Game Boy Advance and GameCube, Xbox and Xbox 360, PS1, 2, and 3, Wii and Windows, etc.

I'd say to use:

XB - Xbox

X360 - Xbox 360

PS[#] - Playstation [1,2,3,P]

Wii - Wii

GC - Gamecube

DS - DS

GBA - Gameboy Advance

Win - Windows

Mac - Macintosh

Lin - Linux

Depending on how far back you want to go you can add tags like MD for Megadrive (Genesis), C64 for Commodore 64, but maybe a [RETRO] or [CLA] for CLAssic tag would be better for things, say, 16-bit era and older.

I'd say to use:

What he said, its just clearer and easier to understand.

Don't people generally use specific 3 letter acronyms to define most systems anyway? Like how Gamecube is often referred to as GCN (because NGC is the NeoGeo Colour).

Either way, I don't think it's really a problem since not many people want to post reviews anyway.

I think they are scared somewhat, possibly because unlike the Movie Ratings, one person can just write something small about the movie and everyone joins in, but here a poster will write an actual review of a game and then everyone seems to join.

Usually, though I never got the GCN thing - GC seems to do just fine. I don't usually see the DS abbreviated as NDS (it would confuse a lot of Novell admins), nor do I see the Dreamcast abbreviated as SDC for Sega Dreamcast.

Not faulting you or anything, just whoever decided to tack on the extraneous N to the Cube's abbreviation.

    • We have disabled advertising in the forums for now for an undetermined period. If you feel like you get a lot of value out of the site please do whitelist ads on the news articles, and/or consider getting a subscription, we offer two tiers, one at: $14 per year (support the site for just over a dollar a month) or the $28/year tier (just over $2/month) that disables advertising and affiliate link tracking throughout the site (so also on the news side). We also have a 'Buy us a coffee' page if you just want to make a one-time donation. I am not mincing words when I say it is becoming harder and harder to monetize publications like Neowin, it's a fact of life that when we can no longer afford to pay for everything we'll go like many other sites already have. It doesn't have to cost you anything There are other ways to support Neowin too, like posting on topic content in the forums (technical support/questions/helping others) and sharing our news articles.. this costs nothing but your time and is just as important as subscribing or making a monetary donation! Anyway thanks for your time and continued support of Neowin. Now in our 26th year, and hopefully many more! For all the lurkers out there that whitelist us, make a free member account, and see fewer (only inline) ads on the news side
