I really didn't have ANY hope for this film.. but the trailer alone has REALLY peaked my interest.

*edit*

Oh - and apologies if this has been posted but I believe this is from the film too. Just such a stunning picture!

That's a fan-made interpretation of what the Enterprise should look like. Not an official one :) But pretty nonetheless.

Star Trek Pushed Back to May, 2009

Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek from December 25 to May 8, 2009, reports Variety.

The studio is also moving DreamWorks' Ben Stiller summer comedy Tropic Thunder from July 11 to August 15.

The trade says the changes were part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as DreamWorks' release calendar.

Studio insiders said Star Trek has the potential to gross more in May than in December. The movie has no competition in its new slot so far.

Paramount also announced that Martin Scorsese's Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer Shutter Island will be released October 2, 2008.

Could someone tell me why they can't come up with something original?

It seems lately that just about all ST movies have to have some kind of time travel aspect.

Can they not come up with just a good story that does not involve time travel?

Will the ghost of Gene Roddenberry PLEASE haunt these clowns and force them to come up with a good script?

Paramount is pushing back the release of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, saying the pic's gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole.

Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as to DreamWorks' release sked. A second key change: DreamWorks' 2008 Ben Stiller summer comedy "Tropic Thunder" is moving from July 11 to Aug. 15.

That's likely to mean that another film will take "Tropic's" old spot on July 11, particularly since there is such a dearth of broad comedies in the May-July stretch.

Like Par, many of the majors are likely to revisit their release skeds in the wake of the writers' strike as they try to balance out their 2008 and 2009 calendars.

"Star Trek" has no competition in its new slot -- at least not so far, although it opens one week after 20th Century Fox bows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and one week before Sony is slated to bow sequel "Angels and Demons."

Paramount also dated two titles. Martin Scorsese's Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer "Shutter Island" will be released Oct. 2, 2009.

An untitled comedy produced by Marlon and Shawn Wayans will be released on Feb. 9, 2009. Their brother Damon Wayans is directing from a script the three co-wrote with two other family members. Par is keeping the logline under wraps.

Here are the other release changes to Par's sked:

* Eddie Murphy family pic "Nowhereland" is moving from Sept. 26, 2008, to June 12, 2009.

* Renee Zellweger horror-thriller "Case 39" is moving from Aug. 22, 2008, to April 10, 2009.

* David Fincher's Brad Pitt starrer "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is moving from Nov. 26, 2008, to Dec. 19, 2008.

In addition to the new date for "Tropic Thunder," DreamWorks and Par announced that Leonardo DiCaprio-Kate Winslet "Revolutionary Road" will be distributed by Par Vantage, and not the studio proper.

This sucks. I was really looking forward to this.

You know. The last 5 ST films have been winter releases, so perhaps the summer-time release will do the movie some good. Of course, the producers totally suck for having to delay, but perhaps the film will do better this way.

Mind you, Wrath of Kahn was a summer release and Teh Voyage Home was a winter release, so who can really say.

PS: THis trekkie isn't so old, there exists Wikipedia.

    • I missed this when you first posted it, but those are awesome icons! I would normally prefer things to be uniform, but each of those icons seems to fit perfectly for the game! If I may ask though, what was your thought process on which icons are circular - MK makes sense - and which ones should be rectangular or square?
    • What I like about Paint is using it almost exclusively for cropping and resizing images I get elsewhere--it's quick, easy and cheap... I keep it glued to my taskbar, in fact. Also, the clipping tool comes in handy, as well (hit print scrn on the keyboard and it activates immediately.)
    • I still remember it fondly today. It was so cool to work in 64-color Half Bright mode and 4.096-color HAM mode (interlaced) when x86 was still in 4-color CGA or 16-color EGA low res. C= never realized what it had until it was far too late--the failure of C= was the failure of its top management. The C= Amiga was 20 years ahead of its time, I always thought. It didn't hurt that in only 512k of chip memory, the Amiga could preemptively multitask when Apple was still doing gray scale graphics on tiny screens and along with everyone else was doing cooperative multitasking (running more than one app at a time in resident memory, but you could only run one of them at a time--had to manually switch between them.) I had a ball with AREXX scripting running between programs that had AREXX ports so that when you sent other applications data and instructions, those running applications could process the same in real time to output! • I'm not sure about that, but it at least "does" a version of 7.1 that this brand new card doesn't....
