Lt-DavidW
It'll do better in the Summer rather than immediately after Christmas when people will be out of pocket. Still can't wait! cbosdell
Well this isn't good news. I mean I am very skeptical about the film but with Leonard Nimoy onboard and Zachary Quinto from Heroes I am willing to give it a shot. I just hope whenever this movie is released it won't destroy the continuity of the Star Trek universe like I fear it will. Or can we just pretend that Enterprise ever happened? My expectations are that the film will revolve around Starfleet itself rather than whizzing around time and space with the Borg, etc. There is a lot of background history that we don't know about yet which this new film can explore without risking continuity. The plot could go back to Roddenbury's roots and based on a personal level (as opposed to Enterprise's CG/action level :x). It could be about the TOS characters meeting for the first time and engaging in training at Starfleet as the Enterpirse crew is selected by Starfleet before the Enterprise first "sets sail". There could be whole story that we've never learned about which involves the establishment of the Federation (with Kirk and friends' help of course). This doesn't even require the Enterprise starship. The final moments of the film could show them leaving orbit/spacedock for their first mission and maybe Kirk could say "Boldly going where no man has gone before" (cheesy I know) then the credits roll as they go to warp. Or they can just do another expensive action-packed CG fest like Nemesis was and ruin it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/615012-jj-abrams-star-trek/page/4/#findComment-589207328 Share on other sites

If you mean when the Enterprise leaves space dock fo rvery first time it wouldn't be Kirk saying "Boldly going where no man has gone before" it would be Pike as he was the first captain I believe. Personally it's my favorite Trek series and one of my top 3 favorite TV shows. No it didn't "shatter continuity." If it shattered anything it is fanon things like the klingon first contact being 2218. Also it contradicted several earlier novels. Yes the Borg and Ferengi episodes were unnecessary but they didn't go against what had been shown on screen in the other series, in fact Regeneration kind of explains why the Hansons were looking for the Borg in Voyager a good 15 years before they were discovered by the 1701-D. The only thing that could be said to be destroying continuity is the Romulan cloaking devices in Minefield which were ignored in the later Season 4 Romulan Arc. The Enterprise Relaunch Novel "The Good That Men Do" explains that as an experiment in fitting actual ships with the cloaks versus just the small mines. The experiment was a failure and the two ships were later destroyed due to the faulty cloaks. Sure it's a bit of a stretch but it's no more of one than anything Voyager did or DS9 or TNG even. Personally most of what I've heard about this film is more of a stretch than anything Enterprise did. Do we really need to have these characters knowing each other all their lives? Can't we just for once have them meet for the first time just prior to "Where No Man Has Gone Before"? I mean I'm not opposed to the idea but there certainly are better ones even dealing with the Original Series only. Hurmoth
Whoops. Still, that thread is about the trailer, not the delay, so this thread is appropriate. theyarecomingforyou
I happen to like Enterprise. Personally it's my favorite Trek series and one of my top 3 favorite TV shows. Did you actually watch it? Scott Bakula may have been brilliant in Quantum Leap but he was ridiculously wooden as Captain of the Enterprise, as were most of the supporting cast. In fact one of the best characters in the entire series was Jeffrey Combs (Shran), though he was also exceptional in DS9. Enterprise had very good story writing during Season 3 and most of Season 4 (except for the terrible Nazi plot-line and the finale, which should not even be considered to exist). If they'd have skipped Season 1 & 2 and picked better actors it would have been brilliant but sadly it was barely watchable a lot of the time. For me it is easily DS9, then TOS (films), TNG, TOS (series), VOY and then ENT. Personally I'm looking forward to the new film and have high hopes for it. Star Trek is a brilliant brand and I hope that this can restore it to its former glory. I just hope it has enough humour, as that was certainly one of the defining qualities of TOS - I'm sure it will, though. Rappy Veteran Posted February 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 21, 2008 It has been confirmed that Greg Ellis, a British actor best known for his role in 24, will be taking on the role of Chief Engineer Olsen. As reported at Trekmovie.com, Ellis will portray the role of Chief Engineer of the Enterprise, the title held by Montgomery Scott (Scotty) under Captain James T. Kirk. It is expected that Scotty will step into that role at some point in the film. He may appear in the earlier part of Star Trek XI as a civilian. Rumors have it that he has a "midget sidekick." There was a casting call for little people last month but it is unknown if this is related to the sidekick or not. Ellis, born in Lancashire, England, is best known for his role of the villain Michael Amador, an arms dealer, who was seen in the third season of 24. He has appeared in Star Trek before, playing Ekoor, a Cardassian, in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode What You Leave Behind. Other movies or shows of note in which he has appeared are: Knight Rider, Titanic and X-files. Ellis has also done voice work for various projects, including Star Trek video games.
