Broadcom 802.11 b/g adapter stopped working after update

Recommended Posts

jesus christ I am beginning to regret getting this PC.

ok so last night I installed office 07 SP1 and Broadcom wireless adapter update. well this morning it doesn't want to work.

it doesn't turn on or connects to the Router. when I flick the switch to turn it on off it does nothing it stays in the off light.

I have no idea what it could be, I tried restoring the original drivers from the CD but no use. tried system restore and no use. I can't even see it on the device manager.

I'm thinking of doing a system recovery, but won't that delete all my personal files such as MP3s. pics?

does anybody know of a solution. :( or did it magically die? stupid PC

EDIT: don't bother replying I fixed it. a little tap where the radio is kick in the driver installation and its working now.

so far I have 2 theories, last night I was drinking a cold glass of coca cola, that I put right on top of where the adapter is located on the laptop, could the cold have caused the adapter to malfunction? I don't know.

2, is a driver that I installed last night...

the problem is with the NEWER vista driver it TELLS you to install. if you are able to get back into windows (safe mode if need be). find the device and ROLLBACK to the original driver installed by vista. i have NO idea why the new driver disables the card. (i did read online, where someone said this card Broadcom 802.11b/g isn't supported by vista anymore. i DO NOT know if this is true.)

so just use the original driver. sometimes my HP laptop will seem to forget the card is there. (i think MS played with power saving settings). what i found to work for me to wake up my wireless is to insert a USB wireless adapter i have for like 10 seconds. this seems to start the wireless again.

from my personal situation, i believe the NEW driver is 1) not fully compatible with the hardware and 2) uses too agressive power saving (power down) function.

tell me how this works for you (the ROLLBACK).
