Bond 22 : Quantum of Solace

Craig unsure about third Bond film

Daniel Craig is unsure whether he will star in another James Bond film.

The actor - who reprises his role as the British spy in upcoming movie Quantum of Solace - says despite signing a contract for another two movies in the franchise, he doesn't know whether he will return to the character.

He said: "I did sign on for four so a piece of paper says there are two more to do. But let's see how this one goes. In the film business, everything doesn't always go according to plan. We'll wait and see. If it goes wrong, we'll have to rethink things."

Daniel also revealed he can "relate" to the depressed character author Ian Fleming originally wrote about.

He added to Playboy magazine: "I got most of my inspiration from Ian Fleming's books. I reread them. In the books, Bond is suave and sophisticated, yes... but there is also a flawed aspect of Bond.

"In the novels he is quite a depressive character. When he is not working, he is at his worst. I can relate."

That actually somewhat makes me wonder if Craig knew this film wouldn't be as good as Casino Royale from the production process... because James Bond films normally do pretty well, but most aren't up to the standards of Casino.

Shame, too... he's an excellent Bond. Makes me wish Martin Campbell would've came back for Quantum.

I'm not surprised if the film doesn't turn out to be as good as Casino Royale, its a sequel, a lot fo the time they just don't hold up these days to the first.

And yes I know Casino royale isn't the first, but you get what I mean.

And I'll never understand why they would change directors if Casino Royale was pretty big, did really well, logic dictates that he did a good job and if I remember correctly he did pretty dam well with Goldeneye too which was popular, you would think they could see a pattern with him.

The last Harry Potter film I really liked and did really well, and they are keeping the director for the next 3 and doing them sooner, a good choice.

But either way I am going to see it and will most probably enjoy it.

Marc Forster not coming back for the next Bond, even though he was offered the job: http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/10/21/mar...bond-at-a-time/

The news snippit also has the writer raving about Quantum, which he saw... so apparently the reviews may still be good/great ;)

from the trailers i'm definitely looking forward to this film.. i dont think you can always trust the reviews

i found this very interesting (hope it wasnt mentioned before).. the budget $ spend and box office income for all the bond films. casino royale cost $130mil, but brought in nearly 600m at the box office. for quantum of solace $230mil was spent.. crazy jump compared to the previous movies as you can see there. goldeneye to tomorrow never dies is interesting as well, the budget nearly doubled while the box office income dropped.

I reckon it's a good film but it's no James Bond. There are no gadgets, no romance and Bond can barely be called a gentleman. I've seen a lot, if not all, James Bond films at it feels as if this one does not fit in.

It's a good movie but give it another title - so do not link it with James Bond - and no one would have known.

    • Surprise! We still can't get it right. With the current state of AI, the crappy software, the huge mega-corporations that back all of these idiot things, I think we are a very long way away from SAE Level 5. I, for one, will never get in one.
    • Nice. September/October GA?! I'll keep following it, but won't install any preview or beta versions.
    • Wow, that could have been dangerous, certainly not ready for these things. They have to be 100% or pretty well close to it. Not that I will see one i doubt, never mind ride in one, they may have them in London, but I doubt they will come to where I live.
    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.
    • Nudge me when they bring back hardware audio acceleration so I can get my EAX 5 back. We've evolved graphics to real-time path tracing, but regressed audio some 15 years back in time with this stupid software audio stack.
