NEVER85
First off, if this belongs in the Vista forum, I apologize. Currently my machine runs with a 320 GB SATA II hard drive, which is what Windows and my apps are installed on, and a 200 GB Maxtor hard drive that's connected via IDE for everything else. In Vista, the 200 GB hard drive is being constantly throttled. Whenever I go to access it, the machine "beeps" and it takes about 5-7 seconds to access any file or folder on the drive. It never happens in XP. It also occurs whether indexing is enabled or disabled on the drive, so I'm at a loss. Anybody have any ideas? RAID 0
It could be your power management is set to power down the drive when it's not in use. Check the power management settings. NEVER85
It could be your power management is set to power down the drive when it's not in use. Check the power management settings. Only setting I found in there was to put the hard drive to sleep after 20 minutes. It likely means the Windows drive which isn't the one being throttled. It also happens regardless of the time interval between accesses, whether it's 20 minutes or 20 seconds. RAID 0
Could be the IDE controller or the drive itself is going bad. I would look for new motherboard drivers. What MB do you have? Corvid19
This bug is well known, the only way I solved it was to go to the advanced power settings (of the plan that you are using) and change the hard drive to never sleep. This does have the knock on effect of not letting your PC go into S3 sleep mode.
