I really want to get an iPod Touch!

Can you use any headphones on the iPoT or do they have to be Apple Headphones? Just wondering if it has the same unusually deep headphone jack like the iPhone which prevents you from using any other headphones apart from Apples.

i felt the same i really wanted an iPod touch for the touch and the WiFi but i fuuuuukin hate iTunes grrrrr

and no u dont need apples headphones like the iPhone the iPod touch uses any headphones i using the Sony ex90's i think it is atm :)

Actually something on the typing front, once you get used to it, and trust the correction system it works pretty fast. I was able to take notes in a lecture, and the prof talks damn fast. You just have to believe in the system that it will correct you along the way without you having to correct yourself even if you see mistakes.

Actually 14GB is only 2101 songs. And yes, I do listen to them all the time. I already have two other 20gb players that I use, though they're getting pretty old now.

I listen to all these songs on random on my iTunes library when I'm on my laptop, so I would like to do the same thing for when I go mobile. I don't like picking and choosing specifics from the bigger list, because then one day I'll be on the road and wish I had that one song I didn't put on it.

Something that I don't think people really realize or think of is you can use the YouTube App to Stream Music Vids of virtually any song and thus increasing your music abilities on the iPod Touch. You can get fresh content via YouTube so while you may be limited in capacity you aren't in ability via the YouTube app. Now if they would just get flash to work right to play www.pandora.com on the go.

Woohoo! Can't wait to buy mine now =D

Do you use a Remote? I'd hate to have to bring it out all the time to change track =/

You're kinda missing the point. No one wants to spend time turning on Wi-Fi, search for the song & wait for it to load to listen to one track. Takes too long & not very practical.

I too love mine but also waiting for a 32/64 gig model.

1st, I wouldn't say "No one"; because I do. 2nd, Wi-Fi is always on once you set it up. 3rd, you don't wait for the entire song to download to start listening to it, it loads as you stream. 4th, It seems more practicle to me than to load only a limited select amount of songs on a tiny capacity drive that is shared with other information and data than not have any alternative. It's also more practical in the sense you aren't limited to exsisting content you have, your open to a wider range of content that doesn't consume precious disk capacity (or at least not in the significance of comparison).

I'll give you all of that but having Wi-Fi on will drain your battery within an hour of music listening. Plus, if you're an audiophile, YouTube sound quality isn't the best if you have hi-end earphones.

I told my friends about the iPod Touch and now we are all getting one!!

Just wondering.. if we have 3 iPods and want to share things with each other.. is that possible? - Without wires.

Also We are thinking of only getting the 3gb model, is there any difference or slowdowns between the 8 GB and the 16 GB? - Remember if you have a full Hard drive on your computer you will experience UI slowdowns.. Is that similar with the ipods?

Wi-Fi is already always on, it's only used when nessisary; Apple stats show that the iPod Touch gets over 18 hours playback time on music; there's no way wifi can reduce this down to 1 hour, even 1/2 of that is still 9 hours. Do some research and read about Apple's earbuds and how they were developed and what materials were used, you'll be surprised to find they had audiophiles in mind. And YouTube sound fluxs, it depends on the stream and the encoded bit rate wich is somtimes higher than 128kbps (what itunes store songs are released at) Sound Quality can be great, it's dependant on factors such as encoded bit rate and streaming rate and distortions in power flux and Radio Interferance and Electro Magnetic Interferance, too many impurities to mention to distort ANY audio source.

Full Hard Drives usually constitute slowdowns due to fragmentation. I have and only experienced the 16 GB version so I can't coment on the comparisons. As for wireless transfers I can't really think of a way off the top of my head, aside from e-mailing each other content via the built in e-mail feature. I haven't done a lot of exploring to know if you can share libraries in the Music feature like you can in iTunes (but even that your restrained to look and listen but not copy.) I imagine Apple would like to bleed every last red cent they can get out of you and thus don't allow or have anything available to share content wirelessesly (to each man, his own purchase of whatever content).

Full Hard Drives usually constitute slowdowns due to fragmentation (not usually an issue with solid state storage ASFAIK). I supose you could upload content to a server of some sort and all of you access the content wirelessly through safari; or perhaps upload the content to YouTube and everyone access the content via YouTube... *shrug*

they are locked, not as a cell, but what apps they can run. i unlocked mine so i could modify the software

The Newton was Apples Mistake in the PDA Market. my Touch is now what the Newton should be.

Explain what you mean?.. Newton?.. Better?.. Why do you need to Jailbrake the iPods its not like they are locked on a plan :s

I agree that this is a must buy had one and was playing about with it for a while and I just ordered it yesterday should be here tomorrow or the day after. Really excited bout it and cannot wait :D

I believe my friends was "jailbroken" :s He was able to install custom apps on it and I was VERY impressed by what he had installed and done.

Just a few questions if you don't mind...

1) If i do "jailbreak" it is there any risk of bricking it how big is that chance and will I lose the warranty or what not?

2) Is there a website where I can find any community created apps like my friend had something along the lines of "iPhysics" and Chess..

3) Will doing any of the above disable any features?

4) Is it possible to direct me to somewhere where I may learn how to do this or get the software necessary?

Thanks in advance :)

Sorry if you are not allowed to explain how thats done here on Neowin and if thats the case pm me if its not too much trouble :)

1. cant "brick" it that im aware of, if somethign goes wrong just power off/on while holding the home button and it will reset it. RESEARCH FIRST

yes you will "Temporarily" loose the warrenty, before sending it back/support. reset it by holding down the home button ( youll have to rejailbreak though)

2. alot of the apps are intalled through Installer.app using sources ( think Linux ), or Remoting into the Touch itself ( using SSH capable FTP client, i use CyberDuck on my Mac and CuteFTP on my windows machine)

3. no it will not disable any features, unless you install services.app then you can disable what you want

4. what is required to jailbreak depends on what firmware you have, but a generic google search for - touch jailbreak - will point you to various places. there is also a dedicated section for Jailbreaking on the iLounge.com Forums

i say Temp loose warrenty as Apple wont support it due to the Modified Software. But Resetting it back to Factory will solve that.

Thanks that was helpful just one more question what do you mean by it will temporarily lose warranty? After i restore it will it regain warranty?

but thats 320kbps~ roughly for all tracks? -V0 VBR would be much better and you'll get much more music on there.

    • OpenAI's new GPT-5.5-Cyber tops Claude Mythos 5 in vulnerability benchmark by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI today announced a major expansion of Daybreak, a cybersecurity initiative designed to help defenders find, validate, and fix software vulnerabilities earlier in the development process. The availability of powerful AI models has definitely changed the cybersecurity landscape by making vulnerability discovery much faster. However, the bigger bottleneck for the industry is now patching those vulnerabilities. Impacted software teams need to validate the discovered issues, understand their impact, develop fixes, test them, and deploy patches. Back in March, OpenAI launched a preview of Codex Security, which uses agentic reasoning with automated validation to discover high-impact issues and actionable fixes specific to the codebase. Since then, it has scanned more than 30 million commits across over 30,000 codebases; more than 70,000 findings were marked as fixed by human reviewers, while over 500,000 findings were automatically determined to be fixed. Now, OpenAI is releasing an updated Codex Security plugin that can run deep scans, review recent code changes, generate security reports, trace attack paths, validate findings, and create codebase-specific patches for human review. It can also triage findings from existing scanners, advisories, bug bounty reports, and ticketing systems. OpenAI says the plugin can export results to vulnerability management systems and integrate with workflows using SARIF files, CodeQL queries, the Codex CLI, and the Codex app. Back in May, OpenAI announced the preview of GPT-5.5-Cyber, a new model built on top of the recently released GPT-5.5, designed for specialized cybersecurity work. Today, OpenAI launched the full version of GPT-5.5-Cyber through a limited release for verified defenders. On CyberGym, GPT-5.5-Cyber scored 85.6%, compared with 81.8% for GPT-5.5 and 83.8% for Claude Mythos 5. It also scored 39.5% on ExploitGym, compared with 25.95% for GPT-5.5, and 69.8% on SEC-bench Pro, compared with 63.1%. OpenAI also announced the new Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, which will allow security vendors and service providers to use GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber in their products and services. Accenture, Akamai, Cisco, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, IBM, Palo Alto Networks, Proofpoint, SentinelOne, Wiz, Zscaler, and others were listed as initial partners for this program. OpenAI is also launching Patch the Planet with Trail of Bits, HackerOne, Calif, researchers, and maintainers. More than 30 open-source projects have committed to participate, including cURL, Go, Python, Sigstore, and pyca/cryptography.
    • AMD confirms 26.6.2 FSR driver breaks on many Windows PCs by Sayan Sen Earlier today AMD released a major graphics driver update as it brings support for FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs. The new update, version 26.6.2, also brings support for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and more. And while the driver technically supports Windows 10 version 21H2 and newer, the tech giant has confirmed that there is a major issue with the new driver on non-Windows 11 PCs as it fails to launch properly on such systems. The error message says, "The version of AMD Software that you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD graphics driver." Therefore on the surface it looks like a compatibility problem. AMD has also confirmed that the device manager will display the yellow bang or yellow exclamation sign alongside your GPU under the Display adapters dropdown. Here is what the Radeon team's official advisory recommends to affected users: "Users Running Windows 10 and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 May Encounter Yellow Bang in Device Manager Affecting AMD Radeon RX Series Graphics ... Our Engineers are currently investigating this issue and will provide a fix once it is available. Affected users may revert to AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.1 as a temporary workaround." As such you should revert back to the previous 26.6.1 driver which was released earlier this month. In case you were looking to play Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations you will probably have to wait a while if you want the driver to support those games officially. You can find the support article here on Microsoft's website.
