Shared folders not showing up in My Network Places

Recommended Posts

I have a small network at home. All PCs have Win XP Pro installed.

To simplify I'll explain the situation using only 2 PCs.

PC A and PC B are both part of the WORKGROUP workgroup and if i click "enitre network" icon I can see them both listed in under workgroup.

My problem is that if i share a folder on A it will show up under My Network Places on B but not vice versa, if I share a folder on B the folder does not show under My Network Places on A. I can access that folder from A by typing the computer's name (\\B), then all the shared folders show up.

Why is this happening and how would I fix it?

Thank you for the replies in advance.

I have had had no trouble did you make the same folder on all your computers? as you must.

on vista you don't only the one but they can still be read ...I do it three are XP one is Vista they all work...providing they are all switched on of course

Your network places is just showing you a cache. I would not worry about it too much.. Just make a shortcut to \\B on your desktop.. Of for that matter just map a driver letter.

I sould suggest you right click on the shares listed in my network places an delete them. They are just cached there.

network places takes longer to use, an has no point when you can just go run \\B or use a shortcut or drive map.

as to "did you make the same folder on all your computers? as you must." Sorry but I have no idea what that is suppose to mean.. You do not need to make the same folders I can tell you that for a fact.
