Mass Effect - PC version

Recommended Posts

I was on Feros and I acquired a bunch of new weapons that are insanely powerful. They look rugged and military like. I forgot the name but it was damn powerful.

By the way, I recently finished an assignment from the Alliance Military. I didn't get anything out of it. Not even a transmission to congratulate me. Surely they would do or say something to make me want to complete assignments for them in the future.

I've been playing ME for the last few days and the storyline and atmosphere are excellent. It feels quite 'cinematic'. My biggest complaints with the game are the lack of first person view, and the lousy combat system (clunky, and no way to disable aim assist), but both are not deal-breakers. I hope to spend more time with the game this weekend :)

I am not even a fan of RPGs, played only a few before, with Oblivion being my favorite*.

* also my favorite game of all time, ironically.

Just thought i should put in my 2 cence,

i'm a FPS through and through, but i couldn't help but pick this up, i'm amazed at the quality of the story to character backgrounds, to the graphics, personally i've been knocked off my feet at the quality of this game, and i'm eager for ME2, or ME:Online

just for the record it plays flawlessly at 1920x1200 on my laptop, no slow down stutter, lag nothing,

spec is as below.

Screen 17" WUXGA 1920 x 1200 TFT Screen

Processor Intel T9300 Core 2 Duo 6MB Cache Dual Core Processor

Processor Speed 2 x 2.5GHz

Memory 4GB DDR2 667MHz Memory

Hard Drive 200GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Drive Blu Ray Reader DVD/RW Multi Burner

Graphics Nvidia 8800M GTX 512mb PCI Express Graphics

Sound Azalia High Definition Audio With SRS WOW Surround Sound

Yeah, It's the Knights of the Old Republic (both the first and second)

I already ended up the game and felt like replaying it as a bad-azz dude :D (you can choose the dialogues and a bit of story-side tracks)

"Completed the game in 5-6 hours" <--- ??? did you listen to the whole story/dialogue? or you were clicking like crazy lol

i have intel c2d e7200, 2gb ram, 8800gt 512mb and winxpsp3. i am running it max everything at 1600x900. this game have some visual glitches. the frame rates drop a little bit sometime, there is facial shadow twitches and i can see light glare from background light sources that passes through character during cut scenes. anyone else experiencing these problems? they need an update ASAP!

Make sure you have the latest WHQL drivers for your card and then await a patch for the game :)

I get those same glitches with my 9600GT but most of the time besides the glitches it's smooth. Just beat it today, the story is simply amazing.

I've done it twice, once renegade and once paragon, both times I did all the side quests i could find then did the main story stuff (yeah i know its sad) and I'm still not bored of the game.

Oh yeah and I have the 3870 and my fps seems to be locked at 60 it only ever goes down to 59 for way less than a second. Everything is on high (or above that if possible, i think a few options let you go higher) and 8x AA 8x AF @ 1440x900. I haven't tried 16x AF and i haven't really felt the need.

One really annoying bug I got was that my guns got stuck in overcharge, so on the last boss (first time i did it) i had to use a pistol since all my over guns had overcharged and I didn't have any training in it so it took me half an hour or some stupidly long time like that :p

Best singleplayer game since I played CoD4.

that happens on the cracked versions....

i'm having a hard time deciding if it's worth buying it for the PC (i played and got all the achievements on the 360 version already) for the expansion pack or just wait a couple years for ME:2

I don't think there is that much difference for you to get it again, if you want to, just download it.

Thanks guys, going to try those now.

And yea, 5-6 hours, wow you really wanted to get through it lol

Lol ya that is fast.

Mass effect is kind of short though, compared to KOTOR. It took me around 30 hours to finish KOTOR 1 and around 10 (or a little more) to finish mass effect.

I finished Mass Effect in about 12 hours total, but I was only focusing on the main missions. I barely did any of the side quests but a friend of mine told me it would extend the game to about 20 hours total. It seems a bit much for simple side quests but I guess it all boils down to how you play the game. Some people can clear it in a matter of hours whereas for others, it may take a while longer.

    • Wow, Microsoft IS cooking lately... This only shows that they COULD improve, they just chose not to for whatever reasons. That obsession with AI was destroying them from the inside out.

It closes the remaining gaps with qBittorrent and fixes the Windows settings/tray/splash issues several of you hit. Fixed Settings now actually save. A whole class of preferences — speed limits (and the alternative limits), max active downloads, seed ratio, listen port, max connections, DHT/uTP/encryption, VPN interface, kill switch and proxy — weren't being persisted and reset to defaults on every launch. They now round-trip correctly. (Thanks to everyone who reported "the upload limit always goes back to 0".) Splash and tray toggles stick on Windows. Turning off the startup animation (or "close to tray") no longer reverts — the Windows registry stored these booleans as integers and the UI was misreading them. Close-to-tray hint. The first time the window hides to the tray you get a one-time notification, so the app doesn't look like it vanished (Windows 11 tucks new tray icons into the overflow). macOS Dock icon size. The icon filled its canvas edge-to-edge and rendered larger than neighbouring apps; it now uses the standard safe-area padding. Native file picker language. The "Torrent file / All files" filter in the open dialog follows the app language instead of being hard-coded. Added — qBittorrent parity Alternative speed limits toggle — a turtle button in the toolbar flips your throttled limits on/off instantly, independent of the scheduler. Follow system theme — switch light/dark automatically with the OS (Settings → Appearance). Pre-allocate disk space — reserve the full file size up front to reduce fragmentation (Settings → Downloads). Recheck data on add — optionally force a hash check when adding a torrent, so existing or partial files on disk are detected. Port status indicator — a 🔴 dot in the status bar shows whether your listen port looks reachable (UPnP/NAT-PMP + listen state; fully local, no external check). Add torrent from URL — File → Add torrent from URL (Ctrl+U) fetches a remote .torrent and routes it through the normal add dialog. Export .torrent — right-click a torrent → Export .torrent to save its metadata file. Already there (in case you missed it) Watch folder — auto-add .torrent files dropped into a monitored directory (Settings → Files). This release just surfaces it. Incomplete files already carry a .!bt suffix until they finish. Under the hood Regression tests for the settings-persistence and Windows boolean bugs. A new Qt Quick Test harness covering the startup splash and the design-system widgets. • Disabling open on hover, great! That was so stupid! They need to do a fix, where if a network share is disconnected, it doesn't hang when opening "This PC" for 20 seconds.
