Your welcome ultimate99! ;) enjoy!

Oh, and HyBry, I have used both those addons in the past, but I don't like them!

And for FF3, don't use CuteMenu's, or any of the themes listed, that included Vista-Aero & MyFirefox Modifier (extension)

All the best of luck with this,

Panarchy

Some people think that I'm crazy, but I actually prefer Firefox without all the add-ons. The only one that I really use is AdBlock Plus to get rid of all those annonying ads. But, the great thing about it is that you can choose to allow ads from certain sites, (eg Neowin, joejoe.org Forums, Warez-BB and other sites that need the ads to display to help with the bandwidth bill.)

Ahh I remember seeing this by you before on Winmatrix last years, so you updated it i see (on both sites).

Thanks :)

Some should come in handy

Aha! Good to see someone been following it around! I didn't want to add it do this forum until I'd made the zip file. Now that I have, I made a topic! :p

Secure Login

Tiny Menu

Linkification

QuickNote

does anybody know of any addon that allows you to add icons to the status bar?

Yeah, try Personal Menu, I'm pretty sure that should do it.

Don't bill your topic as "must have" when it's just a list of what you like.

In fact, most of the addons you listed are far from "must have".

Fission - eye candy. TMP can display progress meter in the tab, which is far far more useful.

Tab Mix Plus - some people who like the default tab handling would find this not necessary at all. Although you could probably make a case for "must have" status.

Adblock Plus - like TMP, you could make a case for it, but there'll definitely be people who don't need it.

DownThemAll - useless for anyone who don't use download managers

IE Tab - useless for anyone who don't use IE. which, considering you're dealing with the Firefox crowd, is quite a few.

Tab Scope - this is just one of many that do the same thing. Again, far from "must have".

MinimizeToTray - and just how many people actually want to have a browser open 24/7 in the tray?

MinimizeToTray Enhancer

Tab Effect - This is eye-candy big time. A waste of resources if you ask me. You're using a browser, not a full-blown OS here! And I don't know about you, but sometimes I already think tab-switching isn't fast enough.

Groowe Search Toolbar - for the vast majority of people who don't use toolbars at all, what use is this?

Throbber Button - this has the usage potential of...how much exactly?

Mouse Gestures - this you could also make a case for, but many people will still find it unnecessary.

Fasterfox - the default settings work fine for most people

CuteMenus2 - gee you must really love eye candy

Personal Menu - last time I checked minimalists are in the minority.

Google Icon - more eye candy, useless eye candy too. At least have actual thumbnails so it's good for something!

Edited by Primexx

I have to admit that I agree with Primexx 100% of the way on this one. I whole lot of those addons are really not needed and installing them all will do not much more than slow down your system. In saying that though, you have mentioned some really good ones such as AdBlock Plus and IE Tab.

Aha! Good to see someone been following it around! I didn't want to add it do this forum until I'd made the zip file. Now that I have, I made a topic! :p

Hehe, :D

Anyway have to say AdBlock Plus saved my life(not literally) but it helped get rid of the stupid ads :)

Actually, I believe at least NoScript and AdBlockPlus are obligatory. It takes a bit of time to get use to NS, but it's worth it. DownThemAll! and Mouse Gestures are not as important, but still, everyone should have a download manager at hand, and DTA does the job. And once you get used to the mouse gestures, especially if you're used to Opera, you can't live without them.

I agree with everything else Primexx said.

I dont believe NoScript is obligatory since most sites wont function without it. DTA seems kinda useless for Firefox 3 but great for Firefox 2.

As for what Primexx said, I agree with most of them.

I don't know with reports of ads spreading virus and other badware I say adblock plus is a must have if any extension truely is 'must have'. But as either side SHOULD admit all this is just opinions, period. There is no such thing REALLY as a must have extension (add-on). That implies the app (Firefox) is incomplete and will NOT function without said extension (add-on), which isn't true. JMHO

Okay, well if you want to be real specific, FF runs pretty good without ANY addons.

I listed the ones I listed for fun, because I like them.

Oh, and one I should add to the list, is Session Manager.

Panarchy

TMP has a mouse gestures option, so you're better off using that.

I don't agree with Primexx 100% though, I like Fission :p.

Same, TMP has a Mouse Gestures option? That's pretty good, I didn't know that. Oh, but Mouse Gestures has a sidebar with a graphic list of mouse gestures ...

Hehe, :D

Anyway have to say AdBlock Plus saved my life(not literally) but it helped get rid of the stupid ads :)

:D Glad to hear it!

Same here. It's certainly helps keep my bandwidth usage down a bit. It seems to me like webmasters these days are loading their sites up with more and more ads, which ends up costing me money.

Good to hear!

I've got friends who use NS, but I keep seeing it come up on the screen... I don't think I could get used to it.

Oh, and DTA on FF3 isn't so bad, it just doesn't have all functionality, they'll fix it when it's released.

I completely and utterly agree with you.

Would recommend Snap Links. I know you can use the scroll wheel to about the same effect but I find this quicker for multiple links.

Ooooh... I remember seeing something like that a while ago.... I'll try it out, and if in a week I still like it, I'll add it to my list!

    • It is silly there is no simple way to check whether this profile has been activated. CFRs are normal, but trying to even hide the fact if it's on / off seems silly, especially for something so user-facing. Surely Microsoft is "proud" of their engineering efforts on this one and ought to display it somwhere in the GUI.
    • Many Linux distros are not known for excellent battery life, so I'm not sure that is the best example. A more apt example may be Apple, but Apple's CPUs are simply far more efficient than Intel & AMD at single-threaded tasks like these, so "boosting" is not as power-hungry and less heat-inducing. Not to mention Apple will hardly engage P-cores for basic UI tasks; they use a pretty complicated QoS scheme to only activate P-cores for more serious workloads like HTML / JS execution or decompression or application launch. Microsoft is (smartly) doing it for launch, but also for UI tasks, which is the more nonsensical part: why ... do Windows 11's UIs need modern CPUs to boost? It should load so quickly that there's not even time for the CPU to boost.
    • I've not seen any controlled testing and, judging by Microsoft's mentality, within a year, they'll have added so much more bloat, it'll undo any perceptible latency benefit and we'll have boosted the CPU clocks for nothing.
    • It depends: heat soak is a thing. Initially on cold boot-up, the heatsinks & heatpipes are at ambient temp. After heatsinks & heatpipes warm up (through normal usage), they don't immediately cool to ambient temp when the load goes away. So their baseline is higher and the trigger point for fans is much less stress. Add a few more CPU spikes → it's too hot to stay at the same fan RPM → fans get triggered to start up up much sooner / get triggered to ramp much more quickly.
    • Can LibreOffice just shut up and worry about themselves and stop comparing themselves? Do we see Microsoft complaining about euro office?
