The seagate has a higher percentage of 1 star ratings (22%) compared to the WD's 1 star rating of 12%. I'm assuming that means the seagate has a higher ratio of failures?

Which would you guys pick. I'm leaning towards the WD just because of the seagate's high percentage of lower ratings, but it does have a 5 year warranty, where the WD is only 1 year... so I dunno.

I'll just be using it to store media (picture back ups and videos), and POSSIBLY time machine. I'll keep my iTunes library/games/etc on my internal HDD.

Get the Seagate. More warranty. That's pretty important to me.

It's $2 less too, which helps.

If the drive fails in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th year... what are you going to do with the WD? Buy a new one?

At least Seagate will give you a replacement? Sounds like a good reason to get one, for peace of mind etc (+4 years warranty).

I hope that your Book does not have a fan because I bought a 1TB WD My Book Pro Edition II, which has a fan, a few months ago, and gosh... I used it like for a few days and I got SO annoyed by the fan noise, and bad performance! Kept on using it while waiting for 1TB G-Technology Drive to be delivered. I was controlling myself not to throw the Book Pro out of the window. I mean, it was noisy, but really noisy. Put all my iTunes Library on it, and it had to spin up so many times that music and videos stopped during their play!!! What kind of crap is that! And the damn thing was plugged in a Firewire 800 port! The Book Pro is back in its box picking up dust in a closet. Very happy that I got a G-Tech drive to replace that Book Pro.
