GDC08: Gears of War 2 Announced - November

Recommended Posts

Sweet, finally something to look forward to on the 360 this year  (the 360's line up is a little lacking this year I reckon) still I better hurry up and finish GoW1  I'm kinda stuck at General RAAM, I can't seem to kill him ...on easy! yeah I suck that bad :(

They could in the 1st. Did you play it on insane? I got cut up a couple of times.

Yeah, I remember thowing the controller plenty of times because of it. You shoot the hell out of them but they can still run up to you and mow you down, like wtf.

Big careface from me, bought it for the xbox didnt like it, tried it on the PC and didnt like it their either. I'm a big UT fan and tend to like UT engine games in general they just have the right sort of feel to em but I honestly though GoW was the most overhyped POS game I've played in years.

Zero immersion, uninspired graphics and lackluster sound.

WOW! your game taste must suck then if you didn't like this game!

No it couldn't possibly be that he has a differing opinion from yours? or maybe that he does not like this type of game? or hell even not like these types of graphics? No?

I LOVED GoW and eagerly anticipate November but please try and not make yourself look like an ass by making statements such as that above :/

I just watched and that is ****ing hot. I can't wait for November.

Who says the Xbox doesn't have any good exclusives coming this year... :D

You know what is most annoying? People keep saying its going to be Sony's year but i disagree with this comment. Sony still don't have alot to offer this year from last year and if people thought 360's line was bad, PS3's is not better!

I am full of confidence in XBOX360 from now and the whole of 2008 like i have been when it came out. There is just so many great games coming. And Microsoft knows what it's doing.

100 + Locusts in real time?? Where's my chainsaw!

Wow that video was great. I'm already pumped about GoW2 but the new features in that video look like something that will really help the game.

Anyone know if that cutscene editor comes with the unreal editor? Beacuse that looked like it could be a ton of fun. Some Cole-Train and Phoenix dance videos!

I dunno about you but I'm really looking forward to Ninja Gaiden 2 and Fable 2. :)

That video was awesome. I loved the big cube of meat lol. And destructible environments!

You do realize that Gears of War runs on the unreal Engine 3

One of the reasons I bought it, always liked Epic games but they somehow took all of the unreal engine feel out of the game. I think it was the camera position that did it.

GoW is one of the few games I really read into the hype over the last few years. I remember reading cliffy b's blogs and couldn't wait for it. When it finally came I was bitterly disappointed. All of the features he talked up about just didn’t exist and the camera that was supposed to make me associate with the character I was playing just made me feel distanced from the game.

That said, GoW did more for Epic than UT ever did so I know I’m part of a tiny minority.

    • SpaceX reportedly plans a Starlink mobile service for U.S. consumers by Karthik Mudaliar SpaceX reportedly wants to sell mobile phone plans directly to consumers in the United States as part of a wider expansion of Starlink. According to a report from the Financial Times, SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell discussed the plan with investors during the company’s recent IPO roadshow. The company is also said to be considering building a terrestrial mobile network to complement Starlink’s satellite coverage. The plan is quite different from how Starlink currently operates in the U.S. mobile market. SpaceX already provides satellite connectivity for T-Mobile’s T-Satellite service, but T-Mobile remains responsible for the subscription, billing, and customer support. A Starlink-branded mobile service would give SpaceX control of the customer relationship instead. It could also turn the company from a partner of traditional mobile operators into a direct competitor. T-Mobile also began testing its Starlink-powered satellite service in early 2025. The beta was initially limited to text messaging and was also available to some AT&T and Verizon customers. The service has since expanded to support limited data access through selected apps, including WhatsApp, Google Maps, AccuWeather, and AllTrails. It is designed to provide a connection in areas where normal cell towers are unavailable, rather than replace a conventional mobile network. However, if SpaceX actually has a plan to serve nationwide, it needs to do more than just satellite networks and actually support on-ground operations. It can also partner up with existing carriers and become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). With that said, SpaceX has already spent heavily to support its mobile ambitions. Just last year, the company agreed to acquire wireless spectrum licences from EchoStar in deals worth a combined $19.6 billion. EchoStar's spectrum includes AWS-4, H-Block, and AWS-3 frequencies that could be used for both satellite and terrestrial communications. According to a SpaceX securities filing, the Federal Communications Commission approved the transaction in May 2026, although it is not expected to close until late 2027. There's no official statement by SpaceX for now. Pricing, availability, and other details remain unknown. Source: Financial Times
