I guess the summarized version of the first article is

"limited if you are connected to a TV, full for anything else."

And, I have DVE, but the finished output didn't seem good to me.

In the end, after many calibration, I've decided to go with what looks good to MY eyes.

I stopped worrying about the calibration and moved on to enjoying the TV. :p

FYI, on any Sony Blu-ray, type in '7669' ('SONY') and there's an "easter egg" calibration tool.

Thanks for the tip! For those on controller hit Triangle (I think it's triangle anyways) and the numbers are there to type in :D

I had not noticed this post before and having just recently purchased a PS3, I will have to calibrate my TV. We have the same TV too so I will just use the settings you have! :p

I've made some slight changes,

PS3 - HDMI

Picture Mode - Cinema

Backlight - 3/4 (depends on what im watching)

Contrast - 88

Brightness - 49 (sometimes lower to mid/low 40's depending on film/game).

Colour - 62 (sometimes lower to mid-high 50's depending on film/game).

Colour Temp - Warm1 (sometimes use Warm2 depending on film/game).

Sharpness - 15

Everything else off, and everything off in advance menu.

Colour Space - Standard

I use calibration video on PS3(load it on USB key) to know is TV accept full RGB or not http://www.filejumbo.com/Download/AB091EEF36A015F8

The main problem with that image which is shared here that it do not has acceptable black/white crush points. Most on TV will never display all blocks which are in that image but it does not mean that you can't use PS3 on Full RGB.

Here is some screens to prove it...

i get that exact same problem on a PC Monitor(or rather every pc monitor i have) i use a Benq V2420H 24" LED, the blacks get crushed, on PS3 Full, and on Xbox 360 Expanded. through hdmi, i use standard on xbox 360 so i dont have that problem, however putting limited on ps3 makes the XMB mediabar interface and well mainly the background dynamic theme look like utter rubbish,

So yes FULL doesnt work on PC monitors either. from my experience.

Edit: Do you know of any PC Monitors that does support 0-255 Full/Expanded??

Man, after reading this, I'm going to have to test mine and see which one is better.

I have calibrated my TV settings, but have RGB to Full. It does look really good, and I never really played with it on Limited. I wonder if I have been playing my games wrong for the past year.... but if I have, they have been looking very damn good already.

    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
