Alice('s Adventures) in Wonderland (2010)

SAN DIEGO ? As is his wont, Johnny Depp sent a throng of teenage girls wild here at Comic-Con International ? just by showing up.

Depp didn?t say much during his brief and unexpected appearance Thursday at the Alice in Wonderland panel in the pop-culture convention?s giant Hall H. He just came onto the stage, said hello to Alice director Tim Burton, drove the crowds nuts and left.

But the cameo was more than enough to send the teeming crowd of prepubescent (and probably post-pubescent as well) girls wild. There were screams and enough mayhem to send security guards scrambling to make sure no one tried to jump onstage and rip off Depp?s clothes (where did I get that idea ??).

It was a target-rich environment: There were loads of girls there because many had waited hours ? some even days ? to make sure they didn?t miss the panel for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which followed Comic-Con?s first-ever 3-D panel, the Disney event that included Alice in Wonderland. Take that, Robert Pattinson!

The script for the Alice event was to premiere the trailer, which would have been cool enough. Actually the trailer, which leaked online Wednesday before being pulled by Disney, was shown several times Thursday at the insistence of actor/comedian Patton Oswalt, who interviewed Burton about the film, which is set to go be released next year.

The trailer itself is about a minute and a half long ? but what a stunner! Vibrant colors, beautiful costumes, fantastic scenery, amazing makeup, all in glorious 3-D. The Cheshire Cat?s smile pops out of the screen, the Mad Hatter dances down the table toward you and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are whisked right past you by an exotic bird. It?s a fantastical vision, a very Burton-esqe vision. The 3-D adds to the surreal experience, and feels quite seamless. In such strange scenery, the 3-D makes everything even more askew. Of course Alice should fall down the hole in 3-D, and the potion she?s drinking, just before shrinking, makes the madness all the more believable.

Our next item is up right now only as a teaser on Sideshow, but Dread has your hook-up! Medicom and Hot Toys seem in constant struggle for domination of the 12-inch format, and this month I think Medicom rules! From the new Tim Burton film Alice In Wonderland, check out Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, the Real Action Hero collectible figure.

I really like Tim Burton's style of movies, I liked Willy Wonka (closer to the style of the original book)

I'll be seeing this one as well.

Agreed. I'm the only one out of my group of friends that prefers the new Willy Wonka as opposed to the older one.

Tim Burton seems like a strange guy, but he makes awesome movies

Pop-rock princess Avril Lavigne will drop her long-awaited new single this March ?Alice Underground?, which will be lifted from the soundtrack to the new Tim Burton Alice In Wonderland remake.

It has yet to be confirmed if the song will also double as the first official single from Lavgine?s fourth album, or if it will simply be a soundtrack song similar to her hit ?Keep Holdin? On? from the film Eragon.

Avril?s new album will be the follow up to 2007?s six-million selling The Best Damn Thing, and will reportedly lose the over-produced pop sheen of ?Girlfriend? in favor of a more acoustic sound similar to her first two albums.

    • I always thought the moon gets a lot of impact because there’s no atmosphere, so surely building a moon base is only going to end in disaster?

    • This piece of ###### is probably one of the most hated apps that ever existed.
    • Microsoft is bringing a much-needed Recap app to Teams, here is a first look by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is heavily used in work and school environments, and perhaps one of its core but extremely useful features is the ability to record meetings. In past years, Microsoft has further improved upon this functionality by integrating AI, but you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to leverage most, if not all, all of those capabilities. Now, the Redmond tech firm is making another significant enhancement in the area of Teams meeting recordings. Up until now, if you wanted to access Teams recordings, you had to arduously locate the meeting invite and navigate to the dedicated tab, or go to the cloud storage location such as a SharePoint site. This was a rather overwhelming activity, especially if you don't remember the name of the meeting or the meeting occurred quite a while ago. Microsoft is now attempting to solve this problem through a dedicated Recap app that consolidates all your recordings. This centralized experience will allow users to find all recordings from the past 30 days and also offer access to other related services such as transcripts and AI-powered summaries. Customers will have the option to search for recordings, filter them, and review multiple meetings by generating AI-powered podcast-style recaps. The Recap app will list all available recordings in both thumbnail and list views. The former is shown below: And here is how Teams users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can select multiple recordings to generate a podcast-style audio recap: Microsoft has emphasized that the Recap app is pre-installed in Teams but it will not be pinned by default. Users will able to navigate to the Teams app store from the left rail, and pin it from the apps section. It will be enabled by default for all users once it becomes available. It's worth noting that while Teams recordings and transcripts can be accessed by all users governed by existing permissions, AI-powered features like intelligent summaries, audio recaps, and video recaps will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The Recap app will be generally available to Teams users on Windows, Mac, and the web by the end of next month, with mobile support coming soon.
