Alice('s Adventures) in Wonderland (2010)

I think they focused to much on The Hatter, the book/movie is called Alice in wonderland, not Hatter in Wonderland, Granted he does play a big role, but I think the fact that they chose Johnny Dep must've made them add more screen time for hatter.

Disney pic earns $116.3 million at box office

Disney certainly hasn't lost any of its muchness.

"Alice in Wonderland" slayed the domestic B.O., earning an estimated mammoth total of $116.3 million at 3,728 playdates to become the highest-grossing first quarter opener, as well as the all-time highest debut for a non-sequel film.

Overseas, "Alice" earned $94 million at 5,600 screens in some 40 territories for a worldwide total of $210.3 million -- the fourth highest worldwide opening for a non-sequel film.

The 3D giant screened at 2,063 3D-equipped locations domestically with an additional 188 Imax locations, repping approximately 70% of the film's total domestic earnings.

Playing second fiddle to "Alice" was the frame's other wide release, Overture's "Brooklyn's Finest," exceeding expectations with $13.5 million at 1,936 screens. Pic comes just a week after the studio launched its horror remake "The Crazies," which grossed $7 million at 2,479 engagements in its soph sesh.

I didn't like it mainly because it wasn't as well executed as I expected.

I agree with that. But as someone pointed out, it was a sequel to Through the Looking-Glass. I didn't think about that at first, so I was disappointed in the lack of character development, but with the fact that this is a sequel to the story we've already known for years, character development isn't needed.

I went and saw it again and the second viewing was actually much, much better. Keeping the sequel idea in mind allowed a much better viewing.

With that in mind, it would have been nice to see this made into a trilogy. I would have liked seeing Burton go for a full series with this, but he didn't.

I know the people who I went with said when they were watching, at the beginning they were confused and disappointed that they ruined the story, but it isnt till later in the movie that you realize this is not a "remake" of the Alice story but a sequel which then changed their understanding and views of it.

Yeah, when I first went to see it, that's exactly what happened and because I was disgusted in the beginning it ruined the first viewing for me. Anyone who didn't like this film because it isn't a remake of the original story, then you really should give it a second chance with the idea of this being a sequel. On my second viewing it was a much, much better film.

I'd honestly go from my original 6 out of 10 to an 8 out of 10 rating.

Disney did a true disservice to this film by not advertising this film as a sequel. Every trailer should have made a better attempt at explaining that. I just assumed from Alice's age in the trailers that they were using an older girl and not necessarily changing any of the story.

People thought the 10 sec "dance" by the Mad Hatter was awkward. Uh it's Underland, IT IS AWKWARD.

I thought it was more awkward when Alice did it. But something to pety didn't ruin it for me. Every time that Helena would appear my theater would laugh. Never missed a beat. I figured the "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" would get annoying. But she said them so fast, I didn't care. The voice acting was very believable.

I think if Burton would have filmed it in 3D, instead of transferring it from 2D, it would have looked 5x better.

Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska?s Alice in Wonderland raked in another $62 million this past weekend, clobbering the competition including Matt Damon?s The Green Zone. Here?s who else placed behind Disney?s 3-D fantasy:

pretty impressive!

I've never gotten motion sickness but after watching this in 3D I was dizzy the rest of the night.

When I got into my car it felt like it was rolling backwards.

Well I watched Avatar in 3D and it was pretty annoying overall. I wish I had watched it in 2D. I won't be diving into 3D again until it is without glasses.

LOL

No sadly, it deserves to because its far superior to it but no

to me, this movie failed to deliver on epic scales... i thought it would be really well made and it was. I thought it would put me through a series of journeys and it didn't really. In comparison to avatar, it really didn't however avatar was of a different genre.

In 3D/Imax, it didn't feel that great.

    • Google reshuffles its AI coding team as it struggles to catch Anthropic by Karthik Mudaliar Google is already reorganizing the AI coding “strike team” it created roughly two months ago, as it attempts to find ways to close the gap with Anthropic in one of generative AI’s most commercially important areas. According to The Information, Google DeepMind is expanding the team’s focus to include “midtraining,” rather than concentrating only on coding tools and agents. Midtraining takes place after a model’s broad initial training but before the final stages that prepare it to follow instructions and perform specific tasks. In simple terms, it gives developers another opportunity to expose a model to carefully selected data before it is polished for release. That could help Google improve Gemini’s underlying coding abilities instead of relying only on better prompts, interfaces, or post-training. Previous research has found that midtraining can be particularly effective for code and mathematics, where models must move from general language knowledge to more structured tasks. Google reportedly created the original strike team in April. It was led by Google DeepMind research engineer Sebastian Borgeaud, who previously worked on model pretraining, and focused on complex, long-running programming jobs. Google co-founder Sergey Brin and Google DeepMind chief technology officer Koray Kavukcuoglu were also reportedly involved in the effort. DeepMind researchers were said to believe that Anthropic’s coding tools were outperforming Google’s Gemini models, prompting the company to give the project more attention. Anthropic has made coding a central part of its AI strategy through Claude Code and its Claude model family. The company has continued improving that area, with Claude Opus 4.8 offering upgrades for coding and other agentic tasks, along with the now-unavailable Mythos and Fable models. The reshuffle also comes at a time when Google faces increased competition for AI researchers. Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer recently announced that he was leaving Google for OpenAI, while two other researchers who contributed to Gemini and DeepMind projects are reportedly preparing to join Anthropic. It remains unclear whether the reorganized team will produce a new public Gemini model or developer product. No release date, team size, or specific performance target has been disclosed.
