First Look at Brad Pitt

First look at Aldo Raine

October 17th, 2008 - 5pm GMT / (posted by Sebastian)

Let me introduce you to the principal Basterd, the head honcho Basterd, most Inglourious of all Basterds, Lt. Aldo Raine (insert applause here). We've got a first look at Brad Pitt in full resistance fighter gear for you. Remember, this ain't your Warner Brothers 1950s WW2 hero, this is a hillbilly straight from the mountains of Tennessee, a man with a scar around his neck that "will never once be mentioned," this is Brad Pitt in one hundred percent Quentin Tarantino Nazi-scalping business. If you drooled over those few pictures of the farmhouse set we ran last week that almost killed our server, get ready to see the site slow down in a few hours. Here's a little quote from the much quoted Aldo Raine opening speech: "? I sure as hell, didnt come down from the goddamn Smoky Mountains, cross five thousand miles of water, fight my way through half Sicily, and then jump out of a ****in air-o-plane, to teach the Nazi's lessons in humanity." So click on Brad Pitt here to the right?. and stay tuned for more inglorious coverage of Inglourious Basterds

2 New Castings

Just yesterday it was announced that Samuel L Jackson had been cast as Sho?nuff in a remake of The Last Dragon. Now, The Playlist has learned that Jackson will reteam with Quentin Tarantino in his WWII film Inglourious Basterds. Jackson, who was featured in Tarantino?s Kill Bill: Volume 2, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, will provide his voice for the narration which is sporadicly used throughout the film.

Also, Chinese actress Maggie Cheung has been cast as Madame Mimieux, ?the French matron of the Cinematheque that takes in the protagonist Shosanna (Melanie Laurent) when she is homeless and being sought by the Nazis.? Cheung has appeared in over 70 films, and was the first Asian actress to win a prize at the Cannes Film Festival (for Clean in 2004), among her numerous other awards (including five Hong Kong Film Awards).

The film that singlehandedly proves that movie fans can be excited about a film despite horrendous misspelling, Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, has a release date - and it's August 21, 2009.

The World War II-set film stars Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, the leader of a group of Jewish soldiers carrying out targetted acts of retribution against the Nazis in Occupied France. They join with undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) to try to take down the leaders of the Third Reich, but their plans bring them into contact with a Jewish woman, Shoshanna (M?lanie Laurent) who has her own revenge plans.

The new release date for the US puts the film up against horror Final Destination: Death Trip 3D and comedy The Goods: The Don Ready Story. It's a summer blockbuster sort of slot - a similar release date to Tropic Thunder last year - and while it hasn't been confirmed yet if the UK release date will be the same, expect it to come not too long after that day.

Teaser Trailer This Week (Source)

Want to see the trailer for Quentin Tarantino?s Inglourious Basterds? Well apparently the teaser trailer will be premiering on Entertainment Tonight this coming week according to Tarantino Archives, possibly on Thursday as the French site Allocine.fr was the first to claim.

I ignorantly wrote the news off over the weekend as a false rumor because I just didn?t believe there was a film coming out next week for the teaser to be attached to that also targets the same demographic and or is being released by The Weinstein Co. But apparently I was wrong. May-be it will be attached to Friday the 13th? Just seems like such an odd choice.

While the film has just entered post production, the movie is being rushed for a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Thanks to /Film reader Christopher M for the tip.

I can't wait for this movie.

Wow, the trailer is mind blowing. Also brad pitt is awesome. And lol at the hitler at the end of trailer.

btw the only quentin tarantino's movie sucked ass was Death Proof. Who's agree? :D

I thought Four Rooms was terrible (though he only did one segment of it) and I hated Jackie Brown.

I thought Four Rooms was terrible (though he only did one segment of it) and I hated Jackie Brown.

:o Four Rooms was hilarious. I've never watched Jackie Brown all the way through despite owning it on DVD. I hate really long films.

Four Rooms was awesome!

Jackie Brown - Hated it the first time I watched it, but I have since watched it 3 more times and its brilliant!

Yeah Death Proof was awful, mind you Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror was pretty bad. Infact Grindhouse was just pathetic.

    • AI will never be the jobs panacea some companies fantasize about today. Oracle is likely using it as an excuse, which we will see a lot of companies doing, I'm certain. They love their "plausible" excuses for their downturns. A couple of weeks ago my wife asked me to call Krogers about some discrepancy in a online grocery order, and it will be the last time either of us does that. I'll just do emails with humans from now on... The AI experience was horrible--the obviously recorded voice started asking a bunch of questions about our orders six months prior(!) and saying, "Is this in reference to your order on January 6, for $****?" You say "No!" and immediately the next question is "Is this in reference to your order on January 29th, for $****?" again, I answered "No!"--and it was incredible--on and on it went like that for fully 20 minutes until we finally got to the present, and only then was I put through to a human with authentic intelligence... I wondered why on Earth the idiot AI didn't start with the most recent orders and work back from there, as it was something anyone with a functioning brain would have done. And why didn't the AI have enough sense to ask me what the problem was in the first place? It didn't take too much deduction to understand that the goal of this "AI" was to cause the person on the phone to hang up in disgust, with no resolution of the problem. That begs another question: why pay for a tool-free problem line if the goal is to avoid solving your customer's problems?... Fortunately, Krogers does have real humans capable of reading an email and understanding it, and if she sees another situation in the future that's route she or I will take. The online grocery delivery service from Krogers has been great, over all, but their AI truly sucks.
    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
