Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds

I typically don't care what mainstream critics think, but I have a lot of respect for Roger Ebert. I went to his site today to check out his review of IB and to my amazement, he gave it 4 out of 4 stars!!! :|

JFI He gave 4/4 to knowing too. :D

Did anyone notice the references to the Sergio Leone's stylized directing in parts of the movie?

Leone is one of QT's favorite directors. He was in an interview recently and stated that, but I can't remember which interview it was. He's been on like every channel :p

He's very much a fan of both Leone and Morricone, which explains why most of his movies have the Leone Western vibe to it, and why he has chosen Morricone to be the first composer to score any of his films.

PosterWire got their hands on an unused poster for Inglourious Basterds, and having seen the film I can appreciate how cool this is. It?s a shame it wasn?t used.

Illustrator James Goodridge spoke to them about the process behind i I came up with 6 designs one of which became the favourite of all concerned. However at this time the movie studio decided they?d like to try building it in photoshop. A few weeks later I was asked to produce an illustrated comp. I should mention how important it is to have a creative director who believes in the illustration option and I was so fortunate that this was the case. The comp was approved with only minor changes but we heard nothing more. I never met with anyone at the studio or the filmmakers so I don?t know what took place but the decision was made not to pursue the illustration.

This was the one project this year I thought I?d never get the opportunity to work on after seeing the early teasers so I was really excited to work on it. Yes, I wish the image had been used but I?ve been working in this arena long enough to know that, until it?s printed, nothing is certain.s certain.

I'm not that impressed at all. All the rave reviews on online sites and high acclaims it received at Cannes don't seem to match up with the movie. It's a violent piece of fiction with a very dark sense of humor with interesting characters. Nothing more, nothing less.

I like it but I don't think I could watch it more than once or twice a year, if I do get it on DVD. I like Kill Bill more but still think it's a good film and would give it five stars. :)

I think that's funny considering I have seen this film about 10 times :p And can't wait to get the Blu-ray to watch it again.

^

Doesn't the novelty wear out after the second watch? How does one manage to watch a movie more than two?! Don't you feel like you're wasting time?

/curious

No, because some movies are so detailed and offers so much in each scene you can't absorb everything the first time.

I love the film. It is one of my absolutely favorites. The dialog, the beautiful scenery, the fantastic acting, the directing. Everything about this film screams "WATCH ME AGAIN AND AGAIN" to me.

I personally don't get why people wouldn't like this film. Of course, I'm a QT fanboy from the word go though. I love his style.

Exactly.

If there weren't such long stretches of dialogue. Think about Kill Bill, mostly action. :)

See, I love QT's dialog though. That's what made me fall in love with his movies to begin with. Pulp Fiction was great because of the dialog and this film far outdoes what PF did for me.

Kill Bill went against everything QT though. It was different than any of his other films because of that action. Could be why Death Proof failed so bad, it was his first film after KB and his newly acquired fans expected more action and what they got was classic Tarantino. This time he made, IMO, a perfect blend of the two.

I actually only watched it this weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

It was definitely a QT classic, it just had that feel throughout the movie that he always gives it. Although I don't think I could watch more than maybe twice a year saying that it is 2 and a half hours long
