[Official] Grand Theft Auto IV

would be better off getting a better bundle at that price and picking up GTA4 seperately imo.

Yeah no doubt, but people in retail will no doubt jump all over this.

Ps. I added a short gameplay clip in my last post ;)

MS can't really ban for playing early.

The game is available to buy in some french/german shops it's reported, and there's even people in the UK selling it on ebay.

It'll be frustrating for them, as they'll see an unrealistic spike in people playing, but if they ban, they'll take out innocent people as well.

Halo 3 caused bans due to the first leak being by an everyday person who ripped the game incorrectly. Orange Box was also ripped incorrectly. I dunno about COD4.

I never meant to say that they'd ban you for playing it early, but what I was saying was that ANYONE who is caught playing in the next week is going to be heavily scrutinised by their pirate game detection software.

If you have yourself a legit copy, count yourself very lucky.

I'm pretty certain the only stores that would sell early are the mom and pop kind of set ups. there are heavy fines for breaking street dates.

for the managers of the stores its pretty much there job on the line i believe as its a clear break of the rule.. discipline etc..

GTA IV: PS3 outselling 360 3:1 at UK’s Asda

According to this MCV piece, Asda’s seeing the PS3 version of GTA IV being pre-ordered three times to every one 360 copy.

“Both titles have generated great interest on the Asda website, with strong pre-orders, and the PS3 version is selling three times that of 360, which is surprising and not in line with what we’d expect,” said Duncan Cross, Asda’s head of games.

HMV was telling a different story, though. Tim Ellis, buying head at the UK retailer, said interest for the 360 version was higher due to store promotion: “Demand for both formats is high, but our 1,000 Xbox points offer generated a huge amount of interest.”

Thanks, Blerk.

PS3 GTA IV presales outpace 360 version down under

When Microsoft announced its multi-million deal with Rockstar for exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, many predicted that this would provide a significant incentive for gamers to choose the 360 version of the game over the PlayStation 3 version. But Australian presale figures seem to be telling a different story, with major retailers contacted by GameSpot AU today saying the PS3 version was currently in the lead.

A spokeswoman for EB Games Australia--the largest specialty games retailer in the country--told GameSpot AU that the PS3 version of GTA IV was just ahead of the 360 in terms of presales. "We are happy to tell you it's neck and neck, but at the moment, PlayStation 3 is currently in the lead," EB Games Australia brand and public relations manager Debra McGrath said.

The PS3 version was even farther ahead with retailer Gametraders. The company's national marketing manager Chad Polley said "according to the figures we have at the moment, we're [pre-]selling two PS3 versions for every one 360 unit."

Last night, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia fired back at Microsoft's DLC incentive, finally confirming rumours that there is indeed PlayStation 3 GTA IV bundle on the way for Australia. The pack comes with a 40GB PS3, one SixAxis controller, and a copy of the game. If you haven't got a PS3 already, the bundle will be available on April 29, the same day as the game's release, for A$749.95 ($709.44).

Looks light it's tight, which is good for Sony, seeing as they have seemed to let MS do most of the advertising :/ UK adverts are all 360 ones!

That thread is already too long

It's the official thread for all GTA4 discussion. Pretty much everything related to the game is posted there.

If you can't be bothered to read all the pages, then that's fair enough. But don't start another topic when an already more established discussion already exists.

Ah right yeah, that is true!

You'll no doubt see bans anyway, word is bans on Live are delayed bans, so you aren't chopped right away, but in a "wave". There is no doubt a nice collection of people lined up to be banned and I can see MS dropping the hammer shortly after GTA4 is out.

They most likely do that to keep you on as long as possible paying for your subscription :p

most likely so you can't be entirely sure what you were banned for

not other typical ps3 vs 360. 'sigh'

We'll see how both performs on actual date. A presell doesn't mean it's guaranteed. For instance, some people would preorder, then on launch day, some wouldn't pick up or just happen not to have money to pick it up.

Just reporting sales news so far, if anyone turns that into some sort of debate, they need to get a life :p

Of course ACTUAL figures and NPDs are what we need, however what I posted is just a heads up on what we may see.

I wouldn't expect to receive a pre-order from HMV on time, let alone early. They are notoriously bad for this kind of thing.

I'm remaining quite hopeful. The last two items I pre-ordered from HMV came two days early (released on Monday, they came the Saturday before). One was from a couple of years back and the other one was in January. They were albums though, so might be different for games.

Nice pictures of the special edition a few pages back, even more excited for the 29th now.

    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.

    • We do it all the time on our IT Service desk mailbox to add a reference, in the subject line, once it's been logged and then it's filed into the appropriate sub-folder. Other companies probably do the same thing.
    • "No. The "New Outlook for Windows" does not support non-cloud mailboxes (such as on-premises Exchange servers). Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
