Text Messaging Help (very basic)

Recommended Posts

Alright well to make this thread most effective the only people who will be able to assist me with my problem will have a icon layout exactly like this:

icons.gif

If you dont, thanks for looking but you cant help me.

Alright so I broke the screen off my phone which is actually quiet lucky with timing since Im just waiting right now for my new phone to arrive, but in the mean time I need to be able to text message. I realize it seems strange to need to be able to txt people when they cannot txt me back, but play along with me here. Anyways I need somone with my phone and layout to tell me exactly what I need to click in what order in order to send a text message.

This is how far I can remember:

  Quote
Keypad Envelope

Right softkey (New Message)

I dont recall the order after that (which is making my brain hurt considering I've sent a shitload of texts in my phones life)

By "Keypad Envelope" I'm reffering to the button above the red END button:

10,000 internets to whoever does this silly task for me.

PS: Assume that I do not know the phone number and will be getting it out of the phones phonebook.

Thank you so much!!

Assume you will be getting very little halp when people don't know what your phone model is.

... particularly since people can customize their phone menus.

OTOH... it's very easy to find the phone model number from that little piece of plastic underneath the battery... so....

You know what mate, as long as their menu looks like mine I really dont care what phone model they have. Anyways, as I said its a razr, and I'm pretty sure razrs dont differ in software all that much. If you want to know the version of razr, well its the one that has the keypad layout in the link.

Honestly you probably would get a lot more help if you didn't make things so complicated. It would be very simple of you to look under your battery and post your model. But you couldn't be bothered. In fact you want people to go on some crazy goose chase wasting 5 or 10 mins of their time in order to figure out what model you have.

I would guess that you have a Motorola Razer V3 or V3i, and if your screen shots match up then your carrier is AT&T (was cingular). Yes your carrier can make a difference in how your phone operates.

And as I said, it really doesnt matter, my phone model creates no distortion to my issue. I made this as simple as possible. If the screenshot looks familiar, you’re good. If not, thanks for looking. The reason for this being Im certain the Cingular software is not strictly limited to the RAZR itself, meaning I didnt want to explicitly knock people away if they had made it as far as the insides of this post. Furthermore, I explicitly stated the need for somone with a RAZR from Cingular in my topic title.

Neowin had a rep for being observant and impartial. So far I've just been falsely attacked by people not considering the fact that I might have put thought into what I chose to write, and not write. It's like the "Gamers' Hangout" has been bleeding into the help section.

My apologies for taking the offensive to those who have not posted. I mean no disrespect to those who I feel are actually attempting to assist. If you do not have the specified phone software or information relevant to my problem, I have no desire for your input. I realize that sounds cold, but its the truth.

Doesn't your network provider have the facility to send text messages from your number from their website?

hmm.. That could be useful, I'll look into that. Any idea if its possible to reroute recieved texts that way too?

God damnit. I was just about to help you and I am looking @ my Razr V9T (T-Mobile) and I am comparing the icons to the first screenshot and mine are organized differently...ugh. I am sorry.

I know on my phone I have to press "up + center button" from the home screen to create a new message. I wouldn't know if its the same for Cingular.

I hope you find the help you're looking for! :) (Y)

haha, yeah I figured that would happen. I was lucky to have found any good screenshots, they certainly came in handy I see. :p

Thanks for trying ;)

My apoligies to you; I did not see your subtitle to this forum. But.............

Your phone model does create a distortion to this issue, ever model, of every phone is different. Even though they might have menus that look the same that does not mean that every button press needed to preform a step is the same. I doubt that Cingular changed much of change to the basic underlying workings of the phone. Typically carriers just brand devices, adding their own custom software. The tricky part is though is that rarely the messaging sytem on a phone has to be rewritten to work with the carriers network. Now Cingular is a GSM provider and GSM networks are pretty much standard so I am going to assume they didn't change much on your phone, probably just added their branding. I am not an expert on razrs by any means, I have never owned one, but I know there is at least three GSM variants V3, V3i, and V3r.

Attacked huh? Have you ever heard of constructive criticism? I was merely attempting to provide you some advice. There area lot of intelligent people on this site. Many whom would be able to solve your problem, even without actually having that phone. When your seeking help for a problem, its best to provide all the relevent information, irregardles if you agree or not to some of us your phone model is relevent.

On a side note I would like to let you know that in nearly six years I have been posting here I bet I have only posted in "Gamers Hangout" 20 times.

After spending about a hour looking around the internet I decided to call three different people I know that have razrs and finally got a hold of one of the phones myself and figured out all the steps for you; but since you have such a **** poor attitude about people helping you / offering you advise I wont be posting that information for you. I realize that sounds cold.

oh yay. More nagging.

Not in my situation. I’ve met people with different Cingular phones and the menu is the same. I think you’re misunderstanding the point that I purposefully did not place my phone model in my post.

Advice which was quick to judge and without gathering all the information first. I consider that unhelpful. The phone model information was NOT relevant. How many times must I state this? I really dont care if you think my phone model was relevant. I thought about it.. Its not.

Congratulations on wasting hours of your time which will produce no results. Wouldnt have it been sticking it to me more if you just did nothing at all? You've also just made yourself look like an *******. Although, I hardly believe you actually did all this. I think as much of an arrogant jerk as you are you wouldnt put that much work into something.

I would restate my desire to only have those with information relevant to my issue posting, but I hardly think that would keep you from responding.

Not much work at all. I was working and had nothing else better to do. I was pretty happy to help out, as an avid telecom enthusiast and habitual phone collector your question was right up my alley. It was your arrogance that made me not want to help you. Neowin probably has more UK and Australian users then U.S.A. users. Cingular is a US operator.

My logic for you posting the model number is this: since this site is dominated by non-US users whom have no experience with Cingular, and then on top of that the Mobile phone section of this site is a "slow" area, not many posters. The few people whom do look at your post will have more information to work with.

This should work for the V3i/V3r

Menu (the button directly above your navigation circle deally bob)

Press up and then right softkey

right softkey

right softkey

type message

right softkey

input number

right softkey

right softkey

I assume you have either the V3i/V3r, because your screen shots show the message button directly above the Cingular union jack. If you have the V3 then the steps are different, if you have a V3xx (Message icon still above the cingular icon) then the steps are also different.

By the way none of the phones I used, or steps I found on the internet had a UI that looked EXACTLY like yours. There was little differences mostly with the theme/icons. However the V3i/V3r seems to be the closest match.

not much work != no work.

You're not going to help me, I get it. I dont care. If you have nothing else to say but to "rub in" the fact that you did work just in spite of me then please just leave.

I just posted the answer for you, did you bother to read my post.

I posted the answer then went back and edited the post adding this section

In my attempt to explain to you that I wasn't trying to be an ass when requesting your model number. And as my answer highlights the model number does matter. Not to a great extent but the information would have been easier to find with an exact model to work with.

My bad. I wrote up a reply but it failed to send. :pinch: oh well.

Anyways, unfortunatly the steps didnt work, but probably through no fault of your own. This phones getting pretty beat up and only even completes calls when it feels like it. My new phone got in yesterday though so I just have to set that up and I'll be golden. Thanks for trying.

The screenshot wasnt mine btw, It was one I randomly grabbed off the net. The only important part was that the theme was the same.

Sorry the steps didn't work. That frustrates me, makes me want to redo the whole process again to figure out what I did wrong (minus the bickering of course lol).

Why type of phone did you get? AT&T has a fairly decent line up so if you bought it from them I am sure your good.

Thats alright man, thanks for spending the time figuring all that out for me. All that fighting was a bit silly huh? My apologies.

I got the LG TRAX and I'm really happy with it. I especially like how you can read text messages without actually opening the phone.

I had that RAZR for so long all my habbits that dont work on this phone are going to take some re-learning. Like on the razr the bottom section of the phone isnt a part of the flip screen so Im used to holding it there and prying open the screen which on this phone just ends up with me holding the phone closed with my thumb and trying to open it :p
