Hi there, I love the LE theme series but the start button erks me a little.

I've seen some modded start buttons around but I'm unsure where, I seem to remember seeing someone link to one on these forums but I've been searching for a while without luck.

Please help! :D

Cheers

Lunaelement.net used to have some resources available, including several alternate start buttons, but that site is now defunct. That may be where you saw them originally.

I don't have any bitmaps laying around, but there are several LE enthusiasts on Neowin that probably have them. If you don't get any responses in a day or so I'll extract some start buttons for you from my own theme collection.

I've uploaded all the startbuttons that I have. These are all the startbuttons that where available at Lunaelement.net as a pack. I could ask em3 if I can uploaded the hole resources pack.

Anyways, here is the link: LE Alternative start buttons

Enjoy! ;)

Lol just completely messed up a VM, cant start explorer.exe ^_^

But isnt there an easier way? Havent found a good tut yet how to change startbutton completely...

You can use Reshack, or Resedit as already suggested, to edit the start button.

Just replace the appropriate bitmap (so to replace Blue Compact's start button, you'd replace BLUEC_STARTBUTTON_BMP).

You can't do with Reshack, but you can with Resedit - you may need to change a value if the start button is wider or less wide than the original. I can't remember which value though - maybe Capric0rn will explain. If you use Reshack like me, you can't do this as it can't properly read the INI files - so I use PE Explorer, although that isn't free. You're best off using Resedit for this - it's similar to Reshack although it can read the INI files.

VERY nice, cheers guys.

I'll give this a go.

Edit: Is there anyway to resize the button area in resedit? I can change the button easily enough but when I choose one of the longer buttons it gets cut in half.

Also, Capric0rn do you happen to have the Windows flag logo as a seperate file?

Many thanks

If you want to use a longer start button, you'll have to change the margins.

I do have the Windows flag as a seperate file but you can also find it easily on Google.

Where do you change the margins?

I've found millions of windows flags but none with a transparent background :p Wondered if you had the one from LE lying around.

Cheers

The LE one is just the Vista vlag but a bit enhanced.

Download Hombre's video, he explains where you can change the margins.

Okay thanks mate.

BTW what program did you make LE in? Stylebuilder or did you just edit images individually and reshack/resedit them?

guys, need help to resize min/max/close button for LE how ?

I tried to resize the min/max/close bmp file in CS2, and replaced the orgnals once, but didnt see any change :( how to i make them flat(squeez vertically :) ??? something to do with content marzine/sizing margins ???

want make small start pannel tooo, its to wide :D how to do this ? tried to modify in stylebuilder its messedup :(

thanks for the gelp.

If you want smaller caption buttons you'll have to resize the magic pink image to a smaller size as well. It's called "CAPTIONBUTTON.BMP".

For a compact startpanel you'll have to change the DefaultPaneSize under "StartPanel". If that doesn't work you'll have to change the DefaultPaneSize from "UserPane", "LogOff" and "PlacesList"

Capricorn, ya i was able to resize to smaller capion button. But had to adjust the content margine because of pacing between the button. Ajusting this screwed up smallcaption buttons to, ther are overlaping now :( how to fix this ?

am a 1st time themer too :D

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline. No login, no cloud, no account. Your files stay on your device.
