[Boxing] Mayweather 'wants Hatton rematch'

Recommended Posts

Floyd Mayweather is considering a rematch with Ricky Hatton at Wembley Stadium next spring, according to the Manchester boxer's promotional team.

Hatton, who fights Mexico's Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium on 24 May, was stopped in 10 rounds by Mayweather last December.

Richard Schaefer, head of Golden Boy promotions, said: "It's very likely that Floyd will come over next spring.

"Floyd and his manager Al Hayman are very serious about it."

Hatton believes referee Joe Cortez contributed to his only defeat in 44 professional contests in Las Vegas and is keen to face Mayweather again under different circumstances.

"I thought the referee was a little bit harsh, the warnings were only coming one way and I lost my cool a little bit," said the 29-year-old.

"But I don't want to be an old man sat with my pipe and slippers in years to come and be blaming it on the referee.

"So I'd like to have another crack at him with a referee on better form and then if Floyd was to beat me again I could say, 'now you know'."

Before a return fight can be sealed, Hatton must first come through his fight with Lazcano before a possible clash with IBF light-welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi at New York's Madison Square Garden in the autumn.

Malignaggi, a native New Yorker, defends his title for a second time against Lovemore N'dou on the undercard of Hatton-Lazcano.

Mayweather, meanwhile, must negotiate a rematch with Oscar de la Hoya on 20 September, as well as an appearance on WWE's Wrestlemania on 30 March.

Schaefer added: "While Floyd would have to get past Oscar first, he knows that Ricky has talked about the referee.

"He wants to show that he will repeat what happened the first time and fighting in front of 100,000 fans would be huge motivation for Floyd."

Hatton ruled out a clash with domestic rival and WBC light-welterweight champion Junior Witter, saying: "If Junior Witter was fighting in my backyard, I'd shut the curtains."

I would love to see a rematch!!!

Would love to see a rematch, hopefully this time hatton will shut him up !!!

Hopefully the referee will be good this time, Spring 2009 they are saying but it may not happen if Hoya beats him in September.

I'd love to see it as well. For anyone who doesn't follow boxing, if they were told Joe Cortez was considered the best in the business they'd be laughing their heads off at the prospect of other referees! Definately some very poor decisions by Cortez in that fight!

Who knows though, maybe Oscar will shut him up. He nearly got their the last time!

If I were Mayweather, I would want Hatton again. Easy payday and low risk defense of the title. Mayweather needs to fight Cotto to seal the deal. Even though I believe he would beat Cotto, thats the only fight left. Enough with these rematches on PPV, lets get some real matches.

BTW, Hatton is fighting Lazcano! Lazcano is washed up, if Hatton loses, it will be a huge black eye on his career. At the same time, wtf? putting him in with a tomato can.

Cotto would be the perfect opponent but I think Mayweather is avoiding him.

You can't blame the ref for getting knocked out.

Anywho, I would love to see a Cotto/Mayweather match up for sure. Floyd was interviewed the other day on Jim Rome is Burning about fighting Cotto and it was apparent that Mayweather is only interested in the fight if he gets a big audience (read:payout), something he believes he can't get from a fighter like Cotto.

That's true, but who knows the KO might never have happened if Cortez allowed Hatton to get a rhythm together. Everytime he tried to unload on Mayweather, the ref stepped in as if he was protecting him. The commentators were all over Cortez for that.

I really only remember the match being stopped once and that was for Hatton hitting Mayweather in the back of the head, which I never saw on the replay either. I really don't think it mattered if Hatton got into a rhythm, Mayweather was just landing his punches and was too quick for Hatton.

Cotto is the latest Puerto Rican boxing hero, surely the money would be good. Wouldn't be nearly as good as fighting DLH but sometimes you need to think about your sport first. This is where boxing needs reform.

    • Here is the new Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper in high resolution by Taras Buria Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its brand-new high-end laptop powered by NVIDIA's brand-new RTX Spark processor. As usual, Microsoft gives each new device a unique wallpaper, and the Surface Laptop Ultra is no exception. While the device is not publicly available yet, somebody has already extracted its wallpaper, giving everyone a chance to get a piece of the upcoming laptop in its full-resolution glory. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a very dark, abstract wallpaper that resembles the stock wallpapers in Windows Server, albeit with much less color. Having this dark, grim wallpaper highlights the laptop's mini-LED display and its ability to cut off parts of the screen's backlight to achieve OLED-like black levels. However, if you also like light wallpapers, we made a white version by simply inverting its colors. You can download both wallpapers below (click the image, right-click it, and select "Save as"): The Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to launch later this year. Microsoft is not revealing full details yet, including the price. However, Microsoft confirmed up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and RTX 5070-level of GPU performance. The heart of the laptop has up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Additionally, Microsoft and NVIDIA boast high CPU efficiency for all-day battery life. As for the display, it is a 15-inch mini-LED display with a pixel density of 262 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Of course, not everyone needs this amount of power, and certainly not everyone can afford it. For those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is also preparing the next-generation Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Weeks ahead of the announcement, details about this computer were leaked by a retailer. Do you like the Surface Laptop Ultra's stock wallpaper? Share your thoughts in the comments. • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.
